  • Publication number: 20030107208
Abstract: An inflator assembly that has a shorter entire length and can be manufactured easily. The inflator assembly includes a pipe, a piston holder, first and second pipe holding plates, a bracket, and an inflator casing. The pipe is inserted through a pipe through hole in the base of the piston holder, through pipe through holes in the pipe holding plates, and through a spacer ring. The base of the piston holder, the spacer ring, and the pipe holding plates are clamped together between first and second flanges of the pipe. The inflator casing is fitted around the outer periphery of a rear end portion of the pipe and has an inward flange that is clamped and fixed between the first and second flanges of the pipe. Second and third flanges are formed by deforming portions of the pipe to have a larger diameter.

  • Publication number: 20030005560
Abstract: A tongue of an inflatable belt device which allows a lap belt anchor to be easily assembled to a tongue body is provided. A tongue plate is provided on its one surface with hook-like projections for coupling a lap belt anchor to the tongue plate, and stoppers for preventing the lap belt anchor engaged with the projections from coming off the projections. Each stopper is supported by a plate spring. As receiving holes are engaged with the projections, the stoppers come in contact with the front end face of the lap belt anchor.

  • Patent number: 6443487
Abstract: A passenger protecting apparatus for improving the comfort of an air belt and for facilitating the attachment and release of the air belt's tongue and buckle connection. The apparatus includes a buckle having a buckle housing connected to a seat base via an anchor member and a bolt so as to allow the buckle housing to be rotated towards the front and back of the vehicle. The anchor member is provided with a spindle insertion portion formed in the state of a hole on the upper end portion thereof. The anchor member and the buckle housing are connected via a spindle pin inserted into the spindle inserting portion. Since the spindle pin is oriented to permit the buckle to rotate towards the sides of the vehicle body.

  • Publication number: 20010034929
Abstract: A latching apparatus for an inflatable belt device which achieves reduction in the gas leakage without losing the smoothness of insertion of a tongue into a buckle, or which achieves reduction in the manufacturing cost and the weight of the latching apparatus. A tongue and a buckle of a latching apparatus for an inflatable belt device have pipes (a tongue pipe, a buckle pipe), through which gas for deploying an inflatable belt flows. The end of the buckle pipe is covered by a buckle cap which is broken when an inflator is actuated. The buckle cap is biased upwardly by a spring fitted around the buckle pipe. A space between the pipes is eliminated by the buckle cap, thereby achieving the reduction in gas leakage. Therefore, the need for excess gas is eliminated, thereby enabling miniaturization of the inflator.

  • Patent number: 6244621
Abstract: An air bag device that includes an inflatable shoulder belt 16 having an end in which a gas generator 30 is arranged. A retainer 32 holds the gas generator 30 and the shoulder belt 16 integrally. The gas generator 30 is movable along a guide rail 34. One end of the shoulder belt 16 is connected to a webbing 18, while the other end is connected to the lap belt 22. A retractor 20 retracts the webbing 18, while a retractor 24 retracts the lap belt 22. The tongue 26 is fastened to the buckle 28.

  • Patent number: 6170863
Abstract: An air belt device which, after an air belt is deployed in a collision, can gradually discharge gas outside, thereby reducing the impact applied to the body of the occupant which is pushed against the air belt. Once an inflator 58 is actuated in the state that a tongue 14 is engaged with a buckle 16, seal members 61, 41 are opened by gas pressure so that gas is supplied through a first gas path 51 of the buckle 16 and a first guide path 21 of the tongue 14 to an air belt 2B so as to inflate the air belt 2B. After that, the gas pressure is applied to seal members 42, 62 so as to open the seal member 42, 62 so that the gas in the air belt 2B is discharged through a second gas path 52.

  • Patent number: 6142512
Abstract: In an air belt system, gas is introduced from the tongue to the buckle with reliability, the occurrence of an unusual noise is eliminated, and the entrance of foreign materials into the buckle is prevented. The piston 60 is pushed up by gas from the inflator 16 mounted in the buckle 12, the tip portion of the piston 60 enters in the duct 12 of the tongue, and the cover 66 is ripped to allow gas to be supplied into the duct 20. The piston 60 is provided with O-ring 72 which slides with respect to the inner surface of the piston holder 50 and comes in contact with the flange 52 of the piston holder 50.

  • Patent number: 6116637
Abstract: An air belt 2B has a bag-like belt potion 10 and a knit cover 12 that surround the bag-like belt portion 10. The bag-like portion 10 has a greater width in the part that fits to the passenger's body between the shoulder and abdomen. The enlarged part of the bag-like portion 10 is folded on top of itself to form a strap-like shape. The knit cover 12 is woven so that it is expandable in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the belt, but virtually not in the longitudinal direction. Upon activation of a gas generator 9 with a buckle 4 engaged with a tongue 5, the air belt 2B inflates. During the inflation, the length of the knit cover 12 shortens in the longitudinal direction of the belt 2B, thereby causing the belt 2B to tightly fit on the passenger's body. This ensures the proper protection of the passenger.

  • Patent number: 6062597
Abstract: Ducts 66 are housed in a housing 46 of a buckle 12. When plugs 20 of a tongue 10 are inserted into plug receiving bores 48, gas outlets 72 of ducts 66 engage plugs 20. Check doors 50 that open and close are arranged on the plug receiving bores 48 of the buckle 12. Check covers 74 including flexible pieces 76 are arranged at tips of the ducts 66 and are open by gas pressure. When a gas generator 16 is actuated with the tongue 10 separated from the buckle 12, gas is discharged downward from gas relief ports 60. The check doors 50 and the check covers 74 prevent the entrance of foreign matters.
