  • Patent number: 7718942
Abstract: Systems and methods for illumination and color management in a system having a plurality of color sources and a plurality of color sensors, wherein there are more color sources than color sensors are described herein. An embodiment of the method includes emitting a plurality of different colors of light from at least two of the color sources, wherein the plurality of colors consist of different intensities of light emitted by the plurality of color sources. Colors of light emitted by the at least two color sources are detected using at least one of the color sensors. The color rendering index for each of the plurality of colors emitted is determined. A color of light to be emitted by the light sources is selected. The intensities of light to be emitted by the color sources is selected, based at least in part on the color rendering index, to achieve the selected color of light.

  • Patent number: 7649161
Abstract: A light source having a first mixing chamber, a light pipe structure, and a controller is disclosed. The first mixing chamber includes a first plurality of LEDs, the first mixing chamber having a first transparent window through which light from the first plurality of LEDs exits the first mixing chamber. The light pipe structure has a first end optically coupled to the window such that light from the first plurality of LEDs enters the first end and a second end through which the light exits. The controller determines the power that is applied to the first plurality of LEDs and includes a photodetector optically coupled to the second end of the light pipe structure. The photodetector generates signals indicative of an intensity of light generated by the LEDs, the controller causing the LEDs to be powered such that the signal matches a target value.

  • Patent number: 7526126
Abstract: Method and apparatus for duplicating a target color and changing a color of an object to match the target color. A first color sensor measures the target color. A color projection mechanism selectively changes the color of the object. A color matching mechanism is coupled to the first color sensor for receiving the target color. Based on the target color, the color matching mechanism controls the color projection mechanism to change the color of the object to match the target color.

  • Patent number: 7315139
Abstract: A light source having first, second, and third component light sources that are driven by first, second, and third primary drive circuits is disclosed. Each primary drive circuit provides an average current to a corresponding one of the component light sources. A photodetector and processor generate three intensity signals representing the intensity of light produced by each of the component light sources. A servo loop adjusts the drive circuits so as to maintain the intensity signals at corresponding target values. One of the compound light sources includes first and second LEDs that are driven such that the currents through the LEDs are maintained at a fixed ratio by a secondary drive circuit that is connected to the third primary drive circuit. The magnitude of the currents is determined by the third primary drive circuit.

  • Patent number: 7098443
Abstract: Method and apparatus for compensating for variations in the output signal of a color sensor due to varying temperature of the color sensor. The color sensor receives light and generates an output signal that is based on the received light. The temperature compensation mechanism measures the temperature of the color sensor and uses the measured temperature to selectively adjust the output signal of the color sensor to generate a compensated output signal that is not dependent on temperature of the color sensor.
