  • Patent number: 8452311
Abstract: A method for waking up user equipment in a cellular network includes waking up a receiver module at a predetermined wakeup time to receive a transmitted paging signal, when awake, determining prevailing conditions for receiving paging signals, and skipping at least a next possible wakeup time if at least one of the prevailing conditions exceeds an associated threshold level. A user equipment for use on a mobile communications network includes a reception quality determiner to determine at least one of a reception quality of a received signal and a radio frequency (RF) level of the signal, a paging indication processor to process received paging signals, a system message handler to determine a level of activity for a cellular network, and a conditional wakeup mechanism that is configured to set a next wakeup for the user equipment time responsively to an input from at least one of the reception quality determiner and the system message handler.

  • Patent number: 7430419
Abstract: A portion of a traffic channel message is detected and decoded to determine if a rapid handover procedure may be used. A first portion of the traffic channel includes information data and CRC data. The CRC data is decoded, and if the CRC determines the message is valid, the mobile station may proceed directly to handover.

  • Patent number: 6556128
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing power consumption of a receiver is provided. The receiver may have an identification number and may receive a portion of a hailing message in a non-sequential manner. The portion may comprise a segment of a hailed identification number. According to some embodiments of the present invention, the apparatus for reducing power consumption may comprise a comparator to compare between the segment of the hailed identification number to a respective segment of the identification number of the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6031466
Abstract: A method for reducing power of a receiver, having an identification number and receiving a non sequential hailing message containing at least one hailed identification number, wherein the message includes a plurality of lines, each having a code portion and a code correction portion providing error correction of a predetermined number of errors per line, the method includes the steps of:detecting portions of the hailed identification numbers within the received portion of the hailing message, comparing between the portions of the hailed identification numbers and the respective portion of the identification number, thereby detecting mismatches therebetween, andterminating reception of the hailing message if the number of the detected mismatches, for each of the portions of one hailed identification numbers, exceeds the maximal number of errors.
