  • Patent number: 10474000
Abstract: Disclosed are a liquid lens and a liquid lens module, which enhance the fill factor of a liquid lens having an inclined partition, thereby achieving a low drive voltage and a high fill factor. The liquid lens includes an oil layer and a conductive liquid inside a chamber having an inclined partition. The oil layer is formed of an oil mixture obtained by mixing at least two types of oils having different indices of refraction, and the oil mixture has the index of refraction corresponding to the index of refraction of the material in which the chamber is formed.

  • Publication number: 20180088345
Abstract: Disclosed are a liquid lens array based on an electrowetting method, a method of manufacturing the same, and a display device using the same. The display device includes a display panel configured to display an image. A liquid lens array of the display device is disposed at a side of the display panel, on which an image is displayed, and is capable of controlling an optical axis of a lens, which is formed by a shape between a first liquid and a second liquid, which is not mixed with the first liquid, filled therein be inclined to left and right sides by using an electrowetting phenomenon. A controller controls the optical axis of the lens formed by the shape between the first liquid and the second liquid to be inclined to left and right sides by applying a voltage to the liquid lens array.

  • Patent number: 7034989
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and method for converting the wavelength of an optical signal using a multi-mode Fabry-Perot laser diode. The apparatus controls polarization of an external pump optical signal to output a TE polarized pump optical signal, and controls polarization of a probe optical signal to output a TM polarized probe optical signal. The apparatus couples the TM polarized probe optical signal and TE polarized pump optical signal irrespective of the polarization of the optical signals. The apparatus finely controls the polarization of the pump optical signal and the polarization of the probe optical signal such that they conform to TE and TM modes of the Fabry-Perot laser diode, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5841556
Abstract: Disclosed is an optical switching system with a combined space and wavelength division multiplex based on the repeated contention technique. The present invention has effects on high capacity in required in the optical switch module, by performing the contention resolution over a two consecutive cell time slot which repeatedly employs the present and previous state information. According to the present invention, the input cells make use of a switching opportunity two times. As a result, the present invention maintains the desired probability of cell loss, keeping up the state values L small. Also, the present invention can decrease the number of filters because it is possible to decrease the number of wavelength used for the wavelength conversion. Furthermore, the present invention has an effect on the high capacity based on the extension of the optical switch modules.

  • Patent number: 5828796
Abstract: An optical switch having reduced processing errors in a coupling region, according to the claimed invention includes an input portion having a pair of optical waveguides; an output portion having a pair of optical waveguides; a light phase shifting portion for inducing an additional phase change on light travelling in the input portion; a first light coupling waveguide for coupling between two light signals of the input portion and for providing a coupled signal with the light phase shifting portion; and a second light coupling waveguide for coupled between two light signals of the light phase shifting means and for providing a coupled signal with the output portion. The light coupling unit includes a waveguide. The switch reduces considerably any error that stems from manufacturing variations between waveguides in a coupling region since the waveguides share the error produced in a coupling region.
