  • Publication number: 20100027617
Abstract: Provided is a method of compressing a reference frame in encoding or decoding moving images. A reference frame to be compressed is divided into basic processing blocks. The basic processing blocks are divided into sub-blocks. A maximum value and a minimum value of pixels within each sub-block are calculated. A necessary bit length needed for compression of each sub-block is obtained based on a difference between the maximum value and the minimum value. An average bit length of the sub-blocks within the basic processing block is calculated based on the calculated necessary bit lengths of the sub-blocks. Bits are variably allocated to each sub-block by adjusting the necessary bit length of each sub-block so that the average bit length of the sub-blocks within a corresponding basic processing block is less than or equal to a preset required bit length. Each sub-block is compressed to the allocated bits.

  • Patent number: 7292548
Abstract: An apparatus and method manages timings of Node Bs by performing a first-step cell search on primary synchronization channel signals transmitted from the Node Bs, and stores frame boundary indexes representing frame boundaries for the Node Bs by performing a second-step cell search on secondary synchronization channel signals received from the Node Bs. Upon receiving a third-step cell search start command, the apparatus and method compares frame boundary timing corresponding to each of the frame boundary indexes to a current timing from a reference timer, performs a third-step cell search on hypotheses corresponding to the frame boundary indexes at a next slot boundary following the current timing by using scrambling codes in a Node B code group obtained by the second-step cell search, and provides a third-step cell search complete information after completing the third-step cell search on hypotheses corresponding to the frame boundary indexes.

  • Publication number: 20060115015
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for transmitting high-speed data through a plurality of transmitter antennas using a relay network, receiving signals transmitted from the plurality of transmitter antennas, and removing interference in a mobile communication system. The received signals are despread on a transmitter antenna-by-transmitter antenna basis according to a preset spreading factor. The despread signals are divided into data signals and noise. The signals transmitted through the plurality of transmitter antennas are regenerated from recovered data signals. Data components and interference signal components are identified. The interference signal components are removed from the signals transmitted on the transmitter antenna-by-transmitter antenna basis.

  • Patent number: 6836225
Abstract: A fast search method for searching for an optimum codeword for nearest neighbor vector quantization. An upper boundary value and a lower boundary value between which an optimum codeword will exist in a codebook are calculated using a distortion of a designated element in an input vector and an experimentally determined threshold. Further, a start point and an end point for codebook search are determined using a binary search method from a codebook rearranged in descending order, and a full search scheme is applied only within a search range calculated by the determined start point and end point, thereby determining an optimum codeword for nearest neighbor vector quantization.

  • Patent number: 5745469
Abstract: A preamplifier for an optical disc system. The preamplifier is based on an automatic gain control (AGC) system for obtaining a constant response and a stable output signal for input signals of a certain amplitude. The preamplifier includes a radio frequency amplifier for amplifying an output signal from the pick-up unit, an AGC unit for amplifying an output signal from the radio frequency amplifier to a desired level, an AGC detector unit coupled at its input terminal to an output terminal of the AGC unit and at its output terminal to an input terminal of the AGC unit. The AGC detector unit serves to rectify an output signal from the AGC unit, compare the rectified signal with a reference signal having a predetermined level, and send the resultant signal obtained by the comparison to the AGC unit. A mode selecting unit is coupled to the AGC detector unit and adapted to select one of several modes of operation, respectively corresponding to different equalization characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5715353
Abstract: A playback/recording modulating-demodulating device, having a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a voltage-current inverter (VCI), a band-pass filter, an amplitude limiter, and a phase-locked loop. In playback mode, the playback input signal is applied to the band-pass filter, the phase-locked loop is activated, and the VCI is set to produce a reference signal which controls the band-pass filter to tune the playback input signal. The tuned playback signal is applied to the amplitude limiter which produces an amplitude-limited signal which is applied to the phase-locked loop to produce a demodulated playback output signal. In record mode, the phase-locked loop is deactivated, the VCO produces a signal having a frequency which varies according to the voltage of a record input signal, and the VCI outputs a current control signal, having an output current related to the voltage of the record input signal, which is applied to the band-pass filter to control its bandwidth.
