  • Patent number: 8879280
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a switching power supply with regulated voltage suppression to reduce transformer audio noise. A switched mode power supply (SMPS) may supply power at different levels according to output loads. A switching frequency of the SMPS may be adjusted according to the output load. The switching may be subject to a ringing suppression time, a maximum on time, and a maximum switching period. By controlling the switching frequency subject to these quantities, the audible noise of an SMPS may be reduced or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 8514592
Abstract: A system and method for operating power supplies. A method comprises altering a current sense (CS) signal, turning off a switch of the converter in response to a determining that the CS signal is greater than or equal to a first threshold, and leaving on the switch of the converter in response to a determining that the CS signal is less than the first threshold.

  • Patent number: 8456868
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention relates to an LLC power converter including a controller configured to regulate an output characteristic of the power converter by controlling a power converter switching frequency. In a first mode of operation, the controller turns off a secondary-side power switch earlier than a turn-off time of a primary-side power switch by a time difference that is controlled by a resistor coupled to an external circuit node. In a second mode of operation, the controller turns on a secondary-side power switch at substantially the same time as the primary-side power switch, and turns off the secondary-side power switch after a maximum on time that is a nonlinear function of a load current of the power converter. The nonlinear function is a substantially constant function of the load current for a value of the load current higher than a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 8149600
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of operating a switched-mode power supply having a switch coupled to a drive signal is disclosed. The method includes shutting off the switch with the drive signal at a first instance of time, and comparing a magnitude of a voltage of a power supply node to a threshold after shutting off the switch. If the magnitude of the voltage of the power supply node exceeds the threshold, the switch is inhibited from turning on for a first time interval.

  • Patent number: 8098502
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of operating a switched-mode power supply that has a switch coupled to a drive signal is disclosed. The method includes deactivating the drive signal at a first instance of time, and comparing a power supply signal to a threshold after deactivating the drive signal. The method further includes activating the drive signal a variable period of time after the power supply signal crosses the threshold.
