Abstract: An electron emission type backlight unit may include a front substrate, a rear substrate facing the front substrate with a predetermined distance therebetween, an anode and a fluorescent layer disposed behind the front substrate, first electrodes and second electrodes disposed on the rear substrate, the first electrodes and the second electrodes being spaced apart from each other, and electron emitting layers at least partially covering sides of at least one of the first electrodes and the second electrodes that extend along a direction other than a direction substantially or exactly parallel to the front substrate.
