The method includes the steps of: defining circuit diagrams and electronic characteristics of a circuit of the multi-phase PWM-based converter; defining configuration of a model of the multi-phase PWM-based converter, and defining characteristics of the model according to the circuit diagrams and the electronic characteristics; and building the model of the multi-phase PWM-based converter.

Abstract: A linear voltage regulator provides a regulated load voltage to a load. In a preferred embodiment, the linear voltage regulator includes: a regulating circuit for receiving an input voltage and providing an output voltage to a load, the regulating circuit being driven by a driving voltage; and two resistors connected to each other in series receiving the output voltage and providing an adjusting current to the regulating circuit. The linear voltage regulator is capable of providing a greater current to the load, and having a wide range of input voltages.

Abstract: A linear voltage regulator is provided for providing an output voltage to a load. In a preferred embodiment, the linear voltage regulator includes: a pass element for receiving an input voltage and providing an output voltage to a load, the pass element being adapted to be controlling by a controlling voltage; two resistors connected to each other in series for receiving the output voltage and providing a voltage reference; and a feedback circuit for receiving the voltage reference and providing the controlling voltage to the pass element. The linear voltage regulator is capable of providing a steady output voltage to the load, and a cost thereof being down at the same time.

Abstract: A method for synthesizing speech from text includes receiving one or more waveforms characteristic of a voice of a person selected by a user, generating a personalized voice font based on the one or more waveforms, and delivering the personalized voice font to the user's computer, whereby speech can be synthesized from text, the speech being in the voice of the selected person, the speech being synthesized using the personalized voice font. A system includes a text-to-speech (TTS) application operable to generate a voice font based on speech waveforms transmitted from a client computer remotely accessing the TTS application.

Abstract: A medical electrical lead includes a canted lead body distal portion extending from an approximately straight lead body proximal portion; the canted distal portion includes an approximately straight segment and a hump-like segment extending from a first end, in proximity to the approximately straight segment, to a second end. The lead further includes a first electrode coupled to the approximately straight segment of the distal portion and a second electrode coupled to the distal portion in proximity to a second end of the hump-like segment.

Abstract: A method is described of producing thin layers (below 10 ?m in thickness) by directing droplets (preferably by inkjet printing techniques) onto precise locations on a substrate, the liquid of the droplets having a viscosity such that the droplets, on impact with the substrate, spread out to form relics on the substrate that are at least 1.4 times the diameter of the droplets in flight, adjacent droplets merging to form a continuous layer on the substrate. The droplets may have different compositions to form images within the layer. Successive layers may be added to built up a three dimensional structure whose properties can be tailored by the compositions used to build up a composite.

Abstract: Monocyte derived adult stem cells (MDSCs) isolated from peripheral blood of mammals are provided, along with pharmaceutical compositions containing an MDSC, kits containing a pharmaceutical composition, and methods of preparing, propagating and using MDSCs or differentiated derivatives thereof. The uses of these biological materials include methods of treating disorders or diseases, as well as methods of ameliorating a symptom associated with any such disorder or disease, including disorders or diseases associated with aberrant function or presence (i.e., level) of pancreatic islet ?-cell-like macrophages.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for refining segmental boundaries in speech waveforms. Contextual acoustic feature similarities are used as a basis for clustering adjacent phoneme speech units, where each adjacent pair phoneme speech units include a segmental boundary. A refining model is trained for each cluster and used to refine boundaries of contextual phoneme speech units forming the clusters.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an MgB2-based superconductor that is easy to manufacture and well suited to mass production, and that exhibits excellent superconducting characteristics (such as a high critical current density) while still retaining the high critical temperature characteristics of MgB2. A powder mixture of magnesium, boron, and titanium is pressed into a pellet, and this product is sintered under an atmospheric pressure and other conditions (preferably at 600° C. or higher) to manufacture an MgB2-based superconductor in which titanium and/or a titanium compound are dispersed in polycrystalline MgB2. The composition of the MgB2-based superconductor is preferably adjusted to have an atomic ratio of Mg:B:Ti=x:2:y, 0.7<x<1.2 and 0.05<y<0.3, and more preferably 0.07<y<0.2, by adjusting the amounts in which the raw materials are added.

Abstract: A method is provided for optimizing an objective measure used to estimate mean opinion score or naturalness of synthesized speech from a speech synthesizer. The method includes using an objective measure that has components derived directly from textual information used to form synthesized utterances. The objective measure has a high correlation with mean opinion score such that a relationship can be formed between the objective measure and corresponding mean opinion score. The objective measure is altered to provide a different function of textual information derived from the utterances so as to improve the relationship between the scores of the objective measure and subjective ratings of the synthesized utterances.

Abstract: The present invention relates to stress-regulated polypeptides, nucleotide sequences encoding the same and regulatory elements and their use in creating or enhancing stress tolerance in plants. Nucleic acid constructs comprising a stress-responsive sequence involved in the production of raffinose operably linked to a promoter, or other nucleotide sequence operably linked to a stress specific regulatory region are disclosed as well as vectors, plant cells, plants, and transformed seeds containing such constructs are provided. Methods for the use of such constructs in repressing or inducing expression of a stress-control sequences in a plant are also provided. In addition, methods are provided for conferring or improving stress tolerance in plants by repression or induction of stress-regulatory sequences or by spatially and temporally directing expression to periods of stress.

Abstract: A speech synthesizer is provided that concatenates stored samples of speech units without modifying the prosody of the samples. The present invention is able to achieve a high level of naturalness in synthesized speech with a carefully designed training speech corpus by storing samples based on the prosodic and phonetic context in which they occur. In particular, some embodiments of the present invention limit the training text to those sentences that will produce the most frequent sets of prosodic contexts for each speech unit. Further embodiments of the present invention also provide a multi-tier selection mechanism for selecting a set of samples that will produce the most natural sounding speech.
