  • Publication number: 20150197434
Abstract: Methods to improve water treatment for industrial uses are described. One method involves admixing source water, such as from a river or other flowing source or body of water, with a modified cellulose and a coagulant and/or flocculant to provide a treated water with the modified cellulose present in an effective amount to improve water treatment efficiency, such as in allowing use of reduced amounts of coagulant and/or flocculant, and/or reduced suspended solids, turbidity, and/or color clarification.

  • Publication number: 20150197439
Abstract: Methods to improve dewatering in industrial and municipal sludges are described. One method involves admixing sludge from a papermaking process and modified cellulose to provide modified sludge with the modified cellulose present in an effective amount to improve dewatering in the treated sludge, such as in allowing use of reduced amounts of coagulant and/or reducing dewatering times, increased dewatered volumes, and reduced sludge product moisture contents, and the like. The dewatered sludge may be formed into a dried particulate, and may be used as filler or other component of concrete, rubber, asphalt, plastics, resin-wood composite products, and other composite products.

  • Patent number: 8392456
Abstract: A data processing system and method are provided to index, search and present information about defined, “fuzzy” concepts across language, chemical and product identity, composition, biological classification and legal reference. The database system and method permits the use of combinations of concepts, such as labeling, health claims and/or nutritional claims, across linguistic, scientific and legal usages. The user is able to search for concepts in a defined way across any language or means of reference. The definition of the concepts used in the database is accepted as a standard by the database system (user(s). Such standardization then permits one user to pass the results of a search to another user with common meaning, and permits value-added services, such as the capability to provide news services about changes in worldwide regulation of goods and services, i.e., changes in information applicable to the concepts of interest to specific users.

  • Patent number: 8037018
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for creating, accessing and managing self-validating documents in supply chain management, documentation services in which at least one alphanumeric string is extracted from a document, relevant alphanumeric strings are determined from the extracted alphanumeric strings by a comparison in sequence and in combination with terms related to materials in a dictionary database of common material terms, and storing matched alphanumeric strings in a data processing system. This system and method provides, among other things, the ability to validate compliance certifications, including via access to underlying source documentation.

  • Publication number: 20110118632
Abstract: A cardiac ablation device treats atrial fibrillation by directing and focusing ultrasonic waves into a ring-like ablation region (A). The device desirably is steerable and can be moved between a normal disposition, in which the ablation region lies parallel to the wall of the heart for ablating a loop-like lesion, and a canted disposition, in which the ring-like focal region is tilted relative to the wall of the heart, to ablate only a short, substantially linear lesion. The ablation device desirably includes a balloon reflector structure (18, 1310) and an ultrasonic emitter assembly (23, 1326), and can be steered and positioned without reference to engagement between the device and the pulmonary vein or ostium. A contrast medium (C) can be injected through the ablation device to facilitate imaging, so that the device can be positioned based on observation of the images.
