Publication number: 20180207771Abstract: Example ratcheting tools are provided. One example ratcheting tool includes a head, a gear ring, a first pawl, and a second pawl. The gear ring may include a plurality of gear ring teeth defining a plurality of gear ring troughs with each gear ring trough being disposed adjacent to a gear ring tooth, and the gear ring may be disposed within the head. The first pawl and the second pawl may also be disposed within the head. The first pawl may include a plurality of first pawl teeth disposed on a first front face of the first pawl. The second pawl may include a plurality of second pawl teeth being disposed on a second front face of the second pawl.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 21, 2018Publication date: July 26, 2018Inventors: Alan D. Patent number: 9973157Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for providing output signal swings that are greater than the supply voltage in a class-D amplifier. The amplifier circuit boosts the voltage across the amplifier load, such as a loudspeaker, by using capacitors to “charge pump” the voltage across the load and thus increase the voltage temporarily. This is done by using two or more output bridges rather than one, and connecting the bridges through the capacitors. For signals of less than the supply voltage, only an inner bridge, similar to a full bridge of the prior art, operates. For signals above the supply voltage, an outer bridge charges capacitors, which are then used to ‘boost’ the voltage on the bridge output for the short period of the Class-D switching period. Thus, only relatively small value boosting capacitors are needed, as they do not need to supply charge for very long.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2016Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: ESS Technology, Inc.Inventors: Peter John Frith, Yongsheng Xu, A. Martin Mallinson, Robert Lynn Blair

The gear ring may include a plurality of gear ring teeth disposed about an outer circumference of the gear ring. The plurality of gear ring teeth may define a plurality of gear ring troughs with each gear ring trough being disposed adjacent to a gear ring tooth, and the gear ring may be disposed within the head. The first pawl and the second pawl may also be disposed within the head. The first pawl may include a plurality of first pawl teeth disposed on a first front face of the first pawl. The second pawl may include a plurality of second pawl teeth being disposed on a second front face of the second pawl. The first pawl and the second pawl may be biased towards the gear ring.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2017Publication date: February 1, 2018Inventors: Alan D. Anderson, Yongsheng Xu

Patent number: 9815179Abstract: A ratcheting tool includes a head and a handle, and a gear ring disposed in the head defining a first plurality of teeth defining a first arc having a first radius. A first pawl is disposed in the head and defines a front face, a rearward face, and a second plurality of teeth which defines a second arc having a second radius. A second pawl is disposed in the head and defines a front face, a rearward face, and a third plurality of teeth which defines a third arc having a third radius. When the first pawl and the second pawl are disposed with their rearward faces in vertical alignment and their longitudinal center axes are disposed in a common plane, the second arc of the first pawl is offset from the third arc of the second pawl in a direction parallel to the longitudinal center axes.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2012Date of Patent: November 14, 2017Assignee: APEX BRANDS, INC.Inventors: Alan D. Patent number: 8984990Abstract: A wrench includes a locking mechanism that provides variable locking positions. The wrench has handles that are rotatably connected such that a closing motion of the handles allows the wrench to grip workpieces as desired by moving a plurality of jaw elements inward toward the workpiece. The locking mechanism advantageously allows the jaws and handles of the wrench to be locked precisely on any size workpiece within the working range of the wrench. Related methods are also described.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2013Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: Apex Brands, Inc.Inventors: Eric Broadaway, Yongsheng Xu, Fengping Zhu, Zhihong Fu
