  • Publication number: 20070211822
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing spatial processing with unequal modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) or stream-dependent MCSs are disclosed. Input data may be parsed into a plurality of data streams, and spatial processing is performed on the data streams to generate a plurality of spatial streams. An MCS for each data stream is selected independently. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. At least one of the techniques of space time block coding (STBC), space frequency block coding (SFBC), quasi-orthogonal Alamouti coding, time reversed space time block coding, linear spatial processing and cyclic delay diversity (CDD) may be performed on the data/spatial streams. An antennal mapping matrix may then be applied to the spatial streams. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. The MCS for each data stream may be determined based on a signal-to-noise ratio of each spatial stream associated with the data stream.

  • Patent number: 7254195
Abstract: The invention is directed to a system for dynamically correcting an electromagnetic wave by processing two or more aspects of the electromagnetic wave along two or more separate signal paths; comparing an expected value for at least one of the aspects of the electromagnetic wave with an actual value for the aspect of the electromagnetic wave to generate a correction signal; and applying the correction signal to at least one other aspect of the electromagnetic wave. The aspects of the electromagnetic wave to be processed may be amplitude and phase, where the comparison may be along the phase path and the adjustment along an analog portion of the amplitude path. A digital phase locked loop may be used for the comparison and to generate the correction signal; and a bank of pipeline registers may be used to adjust the amplitude path.

  • Publication number: 20070147552
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting transmission of a packet in a wireless communication system are disclosed. A packet includes a preamble which comprises multiple repetition of a training sequence. A signal is detected and the detected signal is correlated with a delayed version of the detected signal which is delayed by a predetermined delay time to generate a sequence of correlations. The correlations are normalized. A difference between a first normalized correlation and a second normalized correlation that are separated by the predetermined delay time is calculated. The difference is compared to a threshold. A transmission of the packet is detected based on the comparison. The first and second normalized correlations may be averaged over first and second averaging periods, respectively. A point generating a maximum difference may be identified, and packet synchronization may be performed based on the identified point.

  • Patent number: 6903619
Abstract: A transceiver and transmitter are shown. A baseband processor receives a signal for transmission. It converts the signal into amplitude and phase polar components. Each component is then processed—the phase component through a wideband phase modulator and the amplitude component through a wideband amplitude modulator, and the components are then recombined for further processing or transmission.

  • Publication number: 20040247040
Abstract: A transmitter comprises a baseband processor, a wideband phase modulator and an amplitude modulated amplifier. A signal is provided through the baseband processor and is converted into polar coordinates, comprised of amplitude and phase components, with the amplitude component being transmitted to the amplitude modulated amplifier. The amplitude modulated amplifier being comprised of independently controllable current sources, and with the phase component being transmitted to the wideband phase modulator, for modulation upon a carrier wave, and subsequent transmission to the amplitude modulated amplifier for amplification according to control imposed by the amplitude component upon the current sources.
