  • Publication number: 20080192754
Abstract: A method of managing rule entries of a Ternary Content Addressable Memory (TCAM) in a routing system includes: creating a hash table having a hash key corresponding to each entry; creating a single linked list for linking nodes, the single linked list using the entry of the hash table as a head node and including rule IDs and sequence IDs assigned according to a rule input order; and a double linked list having an independent head node, the double linked list bidirectionally linking the nodes constituting the single linked list according to an order of the sequence IDs. Thus, the packet classifying/filtering rule can be easily added to the TCAM or deleted from the TCAM only with minimal information.

  • Publication number: 20070171911
Abstract: In a routing system and a method for managing a rule entry of the routing system, the routing system comprises: a ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) for classifying rule entries into a reference rule entry having both basic information and priority information about a packet to which a rule having a specific priority is applied, and a separate content rule entry having detailed information about a packet to which at least one rule having the same priority is applied, and for storing the classified rule entries; and an auxiliary memory for storing interface bit map information and direction bit map information corresponding to the reference rule entry, and packet forwarding information corresponding to the content rule entry. Accordingly, when at least one rule having the same priority is applied to several interface packets, all rules can be expressed as only two entries, and the TCAM is effective in memory utilization.

  • Publication number: 20060176893
Abstract: In a method of dynamic queue management for stable packet forwarding and a network processor element therefor, a network processor of a switch/router can stably assign a packet descriptor for packet forwarding of a local area network/wide are network (LAN/WAN) interface. The method comprises the steps of: determining whether there is a corrupted link for the purpose of processing packets for the forwarding; setting free a packet buffer and a descriptor stored in a queue of a port corresponding to the corrupted link; detecting a normal link to number corresponding output ports; and queuing the packets and descriptors corresponding to the packets to a forwarded one of the calculated ports.
