  • Patent number: 5653106
Abstract: An exothermic heat generating apparatus is preferably used as a heat source for rapidly heating in a vehicle or the like, to enable repetition of stable exothermic reaction for long terms. In the apparatus, a closed cycle includes a reactor filled with alkali earth oxide, a water tank, a water supply pipe to supply water from the water tank into the reactor, and a reflux pipe to return the water from the reactor to the water tank. Reversible reaction between the alkali earth oxide and the water is carried out in the closed system. A pump supplies the reactor with water, and a solenoid valve controls a water supply. The exothermic heat generating apparatus uses heat generated by hydration reaction of the alkali earth oxide to rapidly heat a catalytic section, a cooling water section, an air intake section and the like at a time of engine start-up.

  • Patent number: 5517974
Abstract: A fuel injector air assist passage 4 bypasses the throttle valve 1 in the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine, and includes an air pump 10 itself bypassed by a further passage including a pressure controller 25. The controller has a valve disposed in the further passage, controlled by a diaphragm 25d having one side communicating with the intake manifold at the injector site and another, opposite side communicating with the assist passage downstream of the pump. A constant pressure differential is thereby maintained across the injector, regardless of manifold pressure changes.

  • Patent number: 5307671
Abstract: In a method of detecting misfires in a gasoline internal combustion engine, the angular velocities of rotation of the engine detected by an angular velocity sensor are calculated over a period of time, and when the difference between the average value of the angular velocities of rotation and the maximum or minimum value thereof is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold value, the occurrence of misfires is determined. The threshold value is changed according to the operating conditions of the engine such as engine speed or load. Thus, in the method, most suitable, threshold values are set over wide ranges spanning from low speed to high speed, and from light load to heavy load. The abnormal rotation of the engine due to misfires can thereby be with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5297531
Abstract: A fuel supplying device for an internal combustion gasoline engine in which, a loss of air pressure due to the heater is reduced, the heater efficiency is improved, and which is applicable to a multi-point injection system. The fuel supplying device for an internal combustion gasoline engine includes a fuel heating heater 3 provided in the suction pipe 6 of the engine in such a manner that it is extended along the inner wall of the suction pipe 6, so that a loss of air pressure is reduced. One of the plurality of sprays of fuel jetted by a multi-spray type fuel injection valve 7 is applied to the heater, so that the heater efficiency is improved. The fuel injection valve 7 is provided for each of the cylinders of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5284117
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a first fuel injector provided for each cylinder of the engine for injecting fuel into an intake pipe of the engine. A second fuel injector is disposed at a location upstream of the first fuel injector for injecting fuel into the intake pipe independently of the first fuel injector. A heater in the form of an electric heating plate is disposed on the inner surface of the intake pipe at a location between the first and second fuel injectors for heating and evaporating the fuel injected from the second fuel injector.
