  • Patent number: 7158450
Abstract: The invention presents an optical element with which an optical head can be configured, in which there is little deterioration of the correctional effect when the objective lens shifts, as well as an optical head and an optical recording/reproducing apparatus using such an optical element. The invention also presents a novel optical recording/reproducing apparatus and optical recording/reproducing method. The optical element, includes a first voltage application electrode 13, a first opposing electrode 17 arranged in opposition to the first voltage application electrode 13, and a first phase changing layer 15 arranged between the first voltage application electrode 13 and the first opposing electrode 17. By changing a voltage between the first voltage application electrode 13 and the first opposing electrode 17, a phase that converts plane waves into spherical waves is imparted on light that is incident on the first phase changing layer 15.

  • Publication number: 20060248203
Abstract: There is provided a program reservation recording device capable of reducing load on a server and performing program recording as is reserved by a user. Immediately before the reserved program is started and immediately before the end of it (S1), the program reservation recording device makes a request to an information providing server connected via a general-purpose network so as to acquire the latest program list (S2). The program reservation recording device compares the reservation information indicating the program reservation contents (start time, end time, etc.) to be stored in a memory with the latest program list acquired (S3). If any mismatch is present, the reservation information is updated according to the program list (S4).

  • Publication number: 20060203628
Abstract: In an optical pickup driving apparatus and method, a moving device is controlled when an objective lens is moved toward a recording surface and it is detected that the voltage of the focus error signal has reached a slice level voltage H corresponding to displacement of predetermined magnitude from a reference potential E. The objective lens is moved toward the recording surface by a maximum of an upper limit of a predetermined amount of movement and when the amount of movement of the objective lens reaches the predetermined amount of movement, so as to move the objective lens away from the recording surface. And when it is detected during a period of backward movement of the objective lens, that the voltage of the focus error signal has reached the second slice level voltage H corresponding to displacement of predetermined magnitude from the reference potential E, control of beam spot positioning is performed so as to focus an optical spot.

  • Patent number: 7088513
Abstract: A diffraction element includes a light-transmittable member and a diffraction grating formed on at least one face of the light-transmittable member. When a first laser beam having a first wavelength ?1 and a second laser beam having a second wavelength ?2 are transmitted through the diffraction element at first and second diffraction efficiencies, respectively, the diffraction element functions to equalize the first and second diffraction efficiencies to each other by only the one face of the diffraction element. The diffraction grating has a first phase modulation amount ø1 for the first laser beam and a second phase modulation amount ø2 for the second laser beam and the first and second phase modulation amounts ø1 and ø2 are, respectively, approximate to (2?N1±?ø) and (2?N2±?ø) in which “N1” and “N2” are natural numbers and “?ø” is a phase variation amount.
