  • Patent number: 8089850
Abstract: An optical pickup is provided for directing a blue-violet laser beam to access a first information recording medium covered with a first transparent substrate or a second information recording medium covered with a second transparent substrate, which includes a light path switching unit disposed either between a light source and a coupling lens or between the coupling lens and an objective lens for switching the blue-violet laser beam between a first light path and a second light path. The coupling lens is arranged to convert the laser beam reflected on the first or second information recording medium to a converged light. The converged light of the laser beam is then received by a photo detector.

  • Patent number: 8072870
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical structure of an optical pickup for adjusting an exit light quantity of a light source, so as not to have adverse effect on reliability of semiconductor laser to be suited to the quantity of light. The exit light quantity of the light source is adjusted in consideration of a difference in reflectivity of optical discs used in recording or reproducing. With this configuration, when composing a compatible optical pickup for recording or reproducing BD and HD DVD by using light diffraction means of diffraction type, the reliability of semiconductor laser used as light source is enhanced with respect to diffraction efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8068403
Abstract: To provide an optical head to produce good servo and read signals by reducing the influence of interference by light reflected from a non-read layer of a multilayer optical disc. The head includes: a first optical system for converging light from a light source on a first or second storage layer; a second optical system for receiving and transmitting light reflected from the first layer and stray light reflected from the second layer when the light is converged on the first layer; a photodetector; and a calculator. The photosensitive areas of the photodetector output signals representing intensities of the light incident there through the second system. The reflected and stray light incident on the second system interfere with each other, and the first and second groups of areas are arranged so as to be equally affected by a variation in intensity caused by the interference.

  • Publication number: 20110242950
Abstract: In an optical head device which performs recording or reading of data in/from a high-density optical disc using an objective lens with a large NA, a saw-tooth shape diffraction element is used for also performing recording or reading of data in/from a conventional optical disc, such as DVD, CD, or the like. A step difference that produces an optical path length for blue light which is equal to or longer than the wavelength of the blue light and optical path lengths for red and infrared light which are shorter than the wavelengths of the red and infrared light is utilized so as to exert an inverse action on the blue light to those exerted on the red and infrared light. The effect of increasing the working distances for CD and DVD enables multiple compatibility. The above optical element is integrally combined with the objective lens to perform a tracking servo following operation.
