  • Patent number: 5941114
Abstract: A rolling system for producing an angle and a rolling method using such rolling system. The rolling system includes a heating apparatus for heating a steel strip while it is running, a universal mill composed of a pair of vertical rolls each having a groove in the peripheral surface thereof, and a pair of horizontal rolls. One of the pairs of the horizontal rolls have a groove at a longitudinal central portion thereof. Also provided is a group of two-high mills with grooved rolls that are closely disposed one behind the other. The heating apparatus may include a direct current-applying heating apparatus. Since the steel strip that is rolled on the universal mill increases the thickness of a central portion thereof, it is possible to roll an angle from a steel strip whose thickness is the same as the thickness of the flanges of the produced angle.

  • Patent number: 5928441
Abstract: A hot rolling method of steel products comprises rolling steel products while forming a film of an oxalate (such as iron oxalate, calcium oxalate and the like) on the roll surfaces which have contact with the steel products to be rolled and a hot rolling roll for steel products which has an oxalate film on the roll surfaces having contact with the steel products to be rolled. The oxalate film is effective in preventing steel products, particularly stainless steel products, from seizing between the rolls and the steel products to be rolled, preventing wear of the rolls, and preventing the deterioration of both the rolls and the steel products, when the steel products are subjected to hot rolling.

  • Patent number: 5409551
Abstract: A method for improving the resistance to surface roughening of tungsten-containing metallic articles such as cutting tools and hot mill rolls made of a cemented carbide or high-speed steel and extending the lifetime thereof. The method comprises treating a metallic article with an aqueous alkaline solution containing calcium ions and optionally tungstate ions having a pH greater than 8 so as to form a coating of calcium tungstate on the surface of the metallic article. In hot rolling with tungsten-containing rolls, the aqueous solution can be used as at least part of a cooling water to cool the rolls, thereby extending the period before roll replacement becomes necessary due to surface roughening and decreasing the frequency of roll dressing required during hot rolling.

  • Patent number: 5287715
Abstract: A method and apparatus for rolling parallel-flange steel shapes under hot conditions through reversing rolling in a universal mill group are disclosed. The mill group comprises a first universal mill, an edging mill, and a second universal mill. The web height of the steel shape is finished to a final target size by a final pass in the second universal mill, or the inner web length is finished to a final target size by reducing the web weight by a first pass in the first universal mill before carrying out the reversing rolling.

  • Patent number: 4958509
Abstract: A rolling method for parallel-flange steel shapes is disclosed, which comprises the steps of:rough rolling a rolling material in a breakdown mill to form a web and two flanges connected to the ends of the web;performing intermediate rolling to reduce the flanges to substatially their final dimensions; andperforming finish rolling in a universal finishing mill to reduce the web height by rolling the outer surfaces of the flanges with vertical rolls without the inner surfaces of the flanges contacting the lateral surfaces of the horizontal rolls of the universal finishing mill.

  • Patent number: 4669293
Abstract: A continuous rolling mill is constructed by arranging driven horizontal rolling mills and undriven vertical rolling mills alternately and determining the values of the thickness of the rolled material between adjacent stands, the interaxial distance between work rolls, and the diameter of the work roll to satisfy predetermined relationships.

  • Patent number: 4420961
Abstract: A rough rolling process for forming a beam blank for a universal beam from a flat slab, comprises the steps of making a triangular slit of a predetermined apical angle in each of longitudinal side edges of said flat slab and gradually deepening said slit with the apical angle thereof fixed; and widening the slit after the depth of said slit has reached a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4393679
Abstract: A blank for a wide flange beam is produced by feeding a flat slab to a break-down mill in which a box caliber, one or more forming calibers and a sizing caliber are formed by a pair of rolls, and rolling the material in a former stage of the rolling process so that the rectangular ratio of the rolled material is substantially equal to the rectangular ratio of the slab.
