  • Patent number: 9945268
Abstract: A variable valve apparatus for an internal combustion engine according to the present invention comprises a cam base member rotating with rotation of a camshaft and a cam lobe member. The cam lobe member is movable to the cam base member, between a projecting position where the cam part radially projects and a retreat position where the cam part is retreated. A resilient member urges the cam lobe member toward the projecting position. A movement control apparatus includes a drive member provided for driving the cam lobe member, and the drive member is fixed to the cam lobe member. When the cam lobe member is in a non-fixing state to the cam base member, the cam lobe member is moved from the projecting position to the retreat position with the drive member being pressed.

  • Publication number: 20170101906
Abstract: A valve operating apparatus includes: a first intermediate arm and a first rocker arm that are interposed between a first cam unit and a first valve; a second intermediate arm and a second rocker arm that are interposed between a second cam unit and a second valve; and hydraulic lash adjusters that rockably support the rocker arms. The intermediate arms are rockably supported by a rocker shaft. In the axial direction of the rocker shaft, the distance between the first transmission part and a bearing nearest thereto is shorter than the distance between the first pressure receiving part and a bearing nearest thereto, and likewise, the distance between the second transmission part and a bearing nearest thereto is shorter than the distance between the second pressure receiving part and a bearing nearest thereto.

  • Publication number: 20160208661
Abstract: An variable valve apparatus for an internal combustion engine according to the invention includes a cam base member, an elastic member, a cam lobe member, and a mechanism for fixing the cam lobe member to the cam base member. The cam lobe member includes a main cam part, and a push part provided at a different position from this. The cam lobe member can move relative to the cam base member, between a first position at which the push part protrudes from the cam base member and a second position at which the main cam part protrudes from the cam base member. The cam lobe member is biased toward the first position by the elastic member. When the push part is pushed by a follower member linked to an engine valve, the cam lobe member can move toward the second position side.

  • Patent number: 8925503
Abstract: A variable valve actuation device for an internal combustion engine includes a variable valve timing mechanism and a valve timing restricting mechanism. When the operating state of the variable valve timing mechanism is in the phase restricting state and the operating state of the variable valve timing mechanism is changed to the phase releasing state on the basis of pressing the accelerator pedal, a torque limiting control is then performed to limit an increase in the torque of the internal combustion engine. With this control the rate of increase of the torque is set less than the rate of increase of the torque corresponding to the operation of pressing the accelerator pedal by retarding and correcting the ignition timing. Thus, when the operating state of the variable valve timing mechanism is changed from the phase restricting state to the phase releasing state, thereby reducing discomfort experienced by the driver.

  • Patent number: 8554455
Abstract: An IIS system that performs control related to intermittent stopping of engine operation by idling stop control is applied to an internal combustion engine including a VVT mechanism that makes the valve timing of an engine valve variable and has an intermediate lock mechanism that mechanically locks the valve timing at an intermediate lock position between a most retarded position and a most advanced position. The IIS system is configured to inhibit the engine operation from being intermittently stopped at the occurrence of a failure of the VVT mechanism to avoid the internal combustion engine from being prevented from being restarted after the intermittent stop depending on the occurrence of the failure of the VVT mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20070163523
Abstract: Engaging portions 132c, each of which is engaged with a slider gear, are made of an iron based material, and coupler shafts 132d are made of an aluminum alloy material that is the same material as that of a cylinder head. Therefore, compared to a case where the control shaft 132 is entirely made of an iron based material, the thermal expansion coefficient of the control shaft 132 is closer to that of the cylinder head. Therefore, even if the ambient temperature changes, the position of each engaging portion 132c relative to the cylinder head is prevented from being displaced. Also, since the engaging portions 132c are made of an iron based material, the engaging portions 132c have a sufficient strength, which prevents the control shaft 132 from being deformed.

  • Patent number: 6694935
Abstract: A drive shaft is synchronously rotated with a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. A cylindrical hollow cam shaft is rotatably disposed about the drive shaft keeping a first cylindrical clearance therebetween. The cam shaft is formed with at least one cam that actuates an engine valve for opening and closing the same. A bearing bears a given portion of the cam shaft keeping a second cylindrical clearance therebetween. A movement transmitting mechanism transmits a torque of the drive shaft to the cam shaft while converting a rotation movement of the drive shaft to a swing movement of the cam shaft. The thickness of the first cylindrical clearance is smaller than that of the second cylindrical clearance.
