  • Patent number: 5572333
Abstract: A method of recording compressed and coded data is designed to improve the speed and ease of random accessing, and to reduce the buffer capacity and facilitate control and editing in the reproducing system. The method comprises the steps of compressing and coding video signals for every predetermined number of frames with the amount of codes per predetermined number of frames being constant; storing the predetermined number of frames of compressed and coded video signals into at least one video packet; storing the video packet in a pack having a time slot corresponding to the predetermined number of frames (preferably at the end of the pack); and recording the video signals on the recording medium in a pack stream containing such packs, with the relation between the size of the pack and the size of the logical block of the recording medium being set to 1:n (n: an integer) and the relation between the size of the pack and the size of the physical block of the recording medium being set to 2:m (m: an integer).

  • Patent number: 5537409
Abstract: A synchronizing system with a simple structure accomplishes synchronous reproduction without complicating a control circuit for synchronizing video and audio signals with each other. The number of unit audio data blocks to be put in one pack is set in such a way that the difference between the presentation start times for the stream of video data and the stream of audio data in one pack in a predetermined pack period becomes a predetermined value, and the pack carries positional information of the pack in the predetermined pack period to the pack.

  • Patent number: 5473106
Abstract: A karaoke reproducing apparatus for recording singing sound together with karaoke play sound, has a facility of printing information on the recorded musical program. The karaoke reproducing apparatus has a memory which contains previously stored recorded music information including at least the title, songwriter's name, and composer's name for each of musical programs recorded on the recording medium. In response to a recording start command, the recorded music information corresponding to a musical program selected by an operation is read from the memory, and output to a printer. Since recorded music information can be printed on a printed member such as a label and preserved as a record when singing sound is recorded together with karaoke play sound, the label, if adhered to a recording medium on which the sound is recorded, allows the user to readily know the recorded contents afterward.

  • Patent number: 5151699
Abstract: A data converting apparatus inserts DC control bits in an input data series to generate a redundant data series. This apparatus determines the value of the DC control bits in such a way as to minimize the DC component of an output code series which is obtained by subjecting the redundant data series to code conversion. The apparatus performs code conversion after inserting the determined DC control bits.

  • Patent number: 5142377
Abstract: A time base correction apparatus includes a feedback loop for performing time base correction of an input signal by detecting a time base error component of the input signal and a filter having an amplitude characteristic approximating an open loop characteristic of the feedback loop for receiving the time base error component. The input signal whose time base error is corrected by the feedback loop is treated by time base correction by a feed forward operation using an output signal of the filter. With this feature, a time base error which was not removed by the feedback loop is further corrected, and an effective time base correction is performed also for high frequencies.

  • Patent number: 4703369
Abstract: In a method for recording and reproducing a video format signal including audio data and a video data signal, the audio data is divided into groups of audio data, and identification codes for the groups of audio data are inserted into the video format signal as required. For reproducing the video format signal, a sound specifying instruction is compared with the identification codes to detect the group of audio data which has been specified so that the group of audio data thus detected is reproduced while the video data signal is reproduced, for instance, as a still picture.

Abstract: A method of correcting errors in binary coded words with use of a word block consisting of a plurality of data words and a plurality of error check words and consisting of a plurality of subblocks which can be selectively grouped on the basis of one of three different criteria to form one of three different sets of subblocks, wherein one set of subblocks include error check words to provide one error detection code and the other two sets of subblocks include error check words codes to provide two error correction codes. The detection and correction of errors in the data and error check words in the word block being effected by repetition of a cycle including detection of errors on the basis of the error detection code, correction of errors on the basis of one of the two error correction codes and correction of errors on the basis of the other of the two error correction codes.

  • Patent number: 4680647
Abstract: A method for recording and reproducing a video format signal on and from a recording medium. A two-dimensional screen is divided based on the video format signal into a plurality of blocks with one of them being divided into a plurality of subblocks, and video information or information compressed on a time basis is inserted into each of the subblocks. Video information and control information are inserted in the remaining blocks while recording the information on the recording medium. The information in at least one of the subblocks is written into memory in a reproduction mode, and thereafter the information in the at least one subblock is read out of the memory while expanding the information on a time basis, and simultaneously writing the information next to the information in the at least one subblock into the memory, whereby the information in the at least one subblock and the next information can successively be reproduced.

  • Patent number: 4665537
Abstract: A data transmission method in which both random errors and burst errors in data transmission are correctable. A block of data is written at three-dimensional addresses in a memory in a predetermined writing order such that a three-dimensional data arrangement is formed. Check words are added in at least two of the directions as error detecting or error correcting codes to thereby form an extended three-dimensional data arrangement. The data is then read out of the extended three-dimensional data arrangement in a predetermined reading order and transmitted as data arranged one-dimensionally. On the data receiving side, the data including the check words is written into a memory in the same order as the data transmitting side to form a three-dimensional data arrangement therein, and then read out in the same order as the data writing order on the data transmitting side. The data thus read is subjected to error correction as required.

  • Patent number: 4654853
Abstract: A data transmission method in which data of different types is transmitted and errors detected and corrected optimally for the particular type of data transmitted. A check word is inserted into each group of a plurality of data groups, and a control code is also provided representing the coding method on which the check word is based. The data groups including the check word are transmitted together with the control code. At the receiving end, the control code is separated from the transmitted signal and used to detect the coding method on which the check word is based. Then, error detection and error correction are performed in accordance with the detected coding method.

  • Patent number: 4627058
Abstract: An improved method of code error correction is disclosed, for detection and correction of errors in data words or check words of a block of data after transmission-reception or recording-reproduction of the data. The method is of the type in which the data block is divided into three sets of sub-blocks, divided along three different array directions, with check words being assigned to each sub-block before transmission or recording based on specific computations (e.g. in accordance with Reed-Solomon code), and is characterized in that a stage of error detection processing applied to one specific set of sub-blocks invariably succeeds each stage of error correction processing applied to the other two sets of sub-blocks and in that three possible states of each error flag can result from correction processing, to respectively indicate a high probability, a low probability, or an intermediate degree of probability of errors being present in the corresponding word.

  • Patent number: 4604655
Abstract: A method of recording and reproducing a video format signal on and from a recording medium, wherein the video format signal is reproduced on a two-dimensional picture area divided into sections having predetermined identification numbers respectively allocated thereto, the sections consisting of at least one section for inserting sound information, at least one section for inserting control information and remaining sections for inserting picture information. The control information contains pieces of information indicative of the identification number of the section into which the sound information is to be inserted. The sound and control information is recorded on the recording medium in the form of binary codes each consisting of a predetermined number of bits, each of which is modulated to have its level inverted between every adjacent two bits before the bit is recorded on the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 4602295
Abstract: A method for recording and reproducing video and accompanying audio information whereby various reproduction modes are made possible, including displaying a still image with appropriate sound, without adversely affecting the quality of the played-back signals. A video format signal, containing two-dimensional image information, is divided into a plurality of blocks. Audio information is inserted into predetermined ones of these blocks, and video information is inserted in the remaining blocks. The video format signal is recorded in this form on a magnetic medium. Upon reproduction, the blocks into which the audio information was inserted are, for video reproduction, either masked or replaced with other video information. Control information, including information correlating the audio and video information and, preferably, error correcting code information, is also recorded.
