  • Patent number: 8806125
Abstract: A storage system constituted such that power saving to an administrator-desired storage device can be performed from a management device. That is, the storage system comprises a power-saving indication receiving section for receiving from a management console a power-saving indication specifying at least one storage device of a plurality of RAID groups, a plurality of logical units, and a plurality of physical storage devices; and a power-saving controller for saving on power to one or more physical storage devices corresponding to the storage device specified in this power-saving indication.

  • Patent number: 8347033
Abstract: A data element that is identical to a part of a plurality of data elements stored in a logical storage device (LU hereinbelow) is stored in a storage area (pool hereinbelow) separate from the LU. A first PDEV (physical storage device) that stores the data element stored in the LU may be placed in a power saving state while the storage system is operating (in periods when a read command can be received), and a second PDEV which stores the data element stored in the pool is not placed in a power saving state during operation. When the storage system receives a read command which is received from the host apparatus, and if the first PDEV is in the power saving state and a data element identical to the data element which is the target of the read command is stored in the pool, the storage system reads the identical data element from the pool without canceling the power saving state of the first PDEV, and sends the read data element to the host apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8285928
Abstract: This storage control apparatus 100 is able sufficiently to manifest the merits of economization of electrical power. The storage control apparatus 100 includes one or more additional storage units 150 which are adapted for the supply of power to them to be turned ON and OFF individually. Each of these additional storage units 150 includes a plurality of storage devices 154 (for example, a plurality of HDDs). When a user actuates a management device 106, and causes one or more RAID groups and a spare HDD for each of these RAID groups to be set within the storage control apparatus 100, an MPU 140 of the storage control apparatus 100 controls the management device 106 to make the user set each RAID group and the spare HDD for it within the same additional storage unit 150.

  • Patent number: 8219748
Abstract: The respective physical storage devices of a storage system are set to a power-saving state in which these respective physical storage devices are able to respond to a prescribed type of command. Then, a first prescribed type of command is sent to the respective physical storage devices that are in the power-saving state, and the results of this first prescribed type of command are checked.

  • Patent number: 7467269
Abstract: Proposed is a storage apparatus and its control method capable of performing dynamic load balancing or performance acceleration as a whole by balancing the load to a logical volume. With this storage apparatus, the load status of the volume is measured based on the data volume and command throughput transferred between the higher-level device and the storage unit. In addition, the contents of the volume having a load exceeding the default value are copied to one or more backup volumes based on the measurement results of the load status of the volume, the volume of a copy source and the backup volume of a copy destination are associated with one virtual volume, and the virtual volume is provided to the higher-level device.
