Patent number: 6974390Abstract: A golf practice and exercise system having a practice ball and a target assembly, using either a conventional or practice golf club. The practice ball is any generally spherical shape made of a flexible material and having an internal pressure of approximately atmospheric, for example an uninflated soccer ball. The weight of the practice ball is sufficient to provide muscle development, but is limited to allow the golfer to complete the follow-through of the golf swing. The target assembly has an energy absorbing surface attached to a rigid frame held in place by a frame support structure. Alternatively, the target assembly is a flat surface made of a hard material. The practice golf club has a substantially oversized club head with a peripheral rim defining a large opening through the club head. The club head may be selectively weighted. The grip of the club has alternating annular ridges and recesses.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2000Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda

Patent number: 6974389Abstract: A golf practice and exercise device having a frame with a horizontally projecting arm spaced from a base or from the ground and from which is suspended by a cord an object that may take various forms, such as similar to a standard softball, a teardrop-shaped punching bag, a body punching bag, or any other suitable form. The object is positioned with a clubhead impact surface in position for striking by the clubhead of a golf club being swung by a golfer. The impact surface is sufficiently large that a golfer need not concentrate on striking a small target as is required when swinging at a golf ball. The mass of the object is sufficient to provide substantial resistance to the impact of a golf club to impose muscle strain on the golfer for muscle development, but is limited in mass to allow the head of the golf club to swing the object sufficiently for the golf clubhead to ultimately pass under the object and allow the golfer to complete the follow-through of the golf swing.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda

Publication number: 20040166956Abstract: An improved golf club shaft comprising a plurality of alternating circular and rectangular cross-sections extending from a top end of the shaft toward a club head and a corresponding grip which closely follows the alternating cross-sectional contour of the shaft. The rectangular cross-sections allow the shaft of the golf club to fit between chosen fingers on either hand of a golfer, thus stiffening the golfer's grip on the club without creating additional tension in the golfer's arms, which can cause extraneous motion. Improved golf club shaft grips, employing the alternating cross-sectional area system as disclosed for the improved shaft are attachable to conventional golf club shafts for a golfer's use. An improved method for holding a golf club, conventional or as taught herein, to provide additional stability to a golfer during a golf swing is also taught.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2003Publication date: August 26, 2004Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda

Publication number: 20040142758Abstract: A golf practice and exercise mat having two striking contours with different heights and contours of artificial grass which gives golfers practice and exercise by swinging a golf club through the contoured pile that applies resistance to the golf club as the club head travels though the pile, thus enhancing strength and improving muscle memory. One contour, for irons, has the grass pile of the carpet increasing in height at a moderate, curved upward slope to an apex and then decreasing in height at a gradual, linear downward slope. The second contour, for woods, has the grass pile increasing in height at a gradual approximately linear slope until a transition point is reached at which the grass strand height increases in a single step change to a height at least two times greater than the height of the previous pile, and then decreasing in height in a linear downward slope.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2003Publication date: July 22, 2004Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda

Publication number: 20040082399Abstract: A golf practice device includes a base having a substantially flat frontward portion upon which the user stands, a rearward portion and a raised platform protruding upwardly from the rearward portion. The raised platform includes a foot rest inclined generally forwardly and upwardly. The user supports one foot upon the elevated foot rest during a practice swing in order to allow him or her to detect improper balance or sway during the practice swing. The elevated foot rest can receive either the left or right foot of either a right-handed or left-handed user. The practice device can also be used in either a forward-facing stance or a side-facing stance, with either the right or the left foot elevated and is further usable with a multitude of other golf related or non-golf related exercises. In one preferred form, the foot rest's height or inclination angle, or both, are adjustable.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2002Publication date: April 29, 2004Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda

Publication number: 20040063509Abstract: A golf practice and exercise device having a frame with a horizontally projecting arm spaced from a base or from the ground and from which is suspended a member such as a resilient flat strip. The suspended member is positioned with a clubhead impact surface in position for striking by the clubhead of a golf club. The impact surface is sufficiently large that a golfer need not concentrate on striking a small target as is required when swinging at a golf ball. The member is formed to provide substantial resistance to the impact of a golf club to impose muscle strain on the golfer for muscle development, while being limited in resistance to allow the head of the golf club to move the member sufficiently for the golf clubhead to ultimately pass under the member and allow the golfer to complete the follow-through of the golf swing.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2003Publication date: April 1, 2004Inventor: Yoshihiko Shioda
