Patent number: 4419925Abstract: An engine piston composed of a head and a body separately formed from the head. The head is of ceramic material and the body is light metal or light alloy. The head and the body are connected against axial movement by interengaging means provided on the head and body by rotation of the head relative to the body, and the head and body are then fixed against relative rotation by an anti-turning device, this arrangement preventing development of excessive thermal stress. The piston is of reduced weight, can be mass-produced, and reduces fuel consumption.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1980Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yoshihiko Tsuzuki, Kiyoshi Uchida, Toshio Tanahashi

Patent number: 4348653Abstract: A system for indicating an abnormal condition of an automobile in which the condition of inspection items relating to the driving of the automobile is detected, and running speed of the automobile is detected. The system decides that the condition of an inspection item has reached a first abnormal level, and upon detection of the stoppage of the automobile after the time point of the decision, a voice cautioning the driver of the abnormal condition of the inspection item is automatically generated. Upon detection of the fact that a second abnormal level higher than the first abnormal level has been reached, a voice warning the driver of the abnormal condition of the inspection item is generated regardless of the driving condition of the automobile.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1981Date of Patent: September 7, 1982Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshihiko Tsuzuki, Hiroshi Okazaki, Shinji Shirasaki, Masahiro Matsuyama, Masanobu Kobayashi, Yoji Ito

Patent number: 4322800Abstract: An optimum control method for internal combustion engines uses the values of an engine control variable, such as engine timing, which are arranged in a map and stored in a memory. During normal operation, the engine is operated in accordance with one of the mapped engine control variable values related to engine operating conditions. During a fuel consumption minimization operation, the mapped engine control variable value is changed by an incremented amount to operate the engine therewith, and the mapped engine control variable value is replaced by the changed engine control variable value, if it is detected that the change by the incremented amount is in a direction to reduce the fuel consumption rate of the engine. This optimum engine control method can compensate for changes in the characteristics of engines caused during the manufacture or caused by changes over time during their operation, thereby ensuring the operation of an engine at a minimum rate of fuel consumption.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1980Date of Patent: March 30, 1982Assignees: Nippondenso Co., Ltd., Toyota Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takashi Hisegawa, Osamu Ito, Nobuhito Hobo, Yoshihiko Tsuzuki, Yutaka Suzuki, Mikio Kumano, Masaharu Sumiyoshi

Patent number: 4293893Abstract: An apparatus for controlling angular position of optical axis of a head lamp assembly for a motor vehicle. An actuator is supplied selectively with the atmospheric pressure and a negative pressure available from an intake conduit of an internal combustion engine thereby to produce corresponding mechanical displacements. A detector for detecting the angular position of the optical axis of the head lamp assembly responds to the mechanical displacements of the actuator to change-over successively the contact states of a plurality of paired electric contacts. A command unit for setting the angular position of the optical axis of the head lamp assembly is provided which includes a plurality of paired electric contacts connected in one-to-one correspondence to the paired contacts of the optical axis position detector. A signal for setting the optical axis of the head lamp assembly is produced in dependence on the contact states of the optical axis position detector.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1979Date of Patent: October 6, 1981Assignee: Nippondenso Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshihiko Tsuzuki, Sumihiro Kaga, Nobuhito Hobo
