Patent number: 7315138Abstract: A discharge lamp operating device includes a voltage application unit that applies to a discharge lamp an alternating-current (AC) voltage for operation of the discharge lamp, and a frequency setting unit that sets a frequency of the AC voltage to a first frequency for ignition of the discharge lamp and sets the frequency of the AC voltage to a second frequency during operation of the discharge lamp after the ignition. In the discharge lamp operating device, the second frequency is lower than the first frequency.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2006Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Yoshihiko Usami, Norimasa Furukawa

Patent number: 6636006Abstract: A deflection yoke for use in a cathode ray tube includes a switching circuit, which is coupled to each vertical coil. The deflection yoke employs two pairs of vertical coils. The vertical coil pairs can be two pairs of saddle type coils, one pair of saddle type coils and one pair of toroidal type coils, or a divided pair of saddle type coils to make two pairs of saddle type coils. The deflection in the first quarter region from the top and the last quarter region at the bottom of the CRT screen is provided by one coil when energized by the vertical deflection current switched through it. The deflection in the two middle quarter regions of the CRT screen is provided by a second coil when energized by the vertical deflection current switched through it. One vertical coil pair is optimized to correct convergence error in the top and bottom quarter portions of the CRT screen. The other vertical coil pair is optimized to correct convergence error in the middle portion of the CRT screen.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2001Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventor: Yoshihiko Usami

Patent number: 6624560Abstract: A depression in the windings of a horizontal coil at a predetermined location in a deflection yoke of a cathode ray tube corrects for multiple types of mis-convergence. In particular, the depression in the windings is disposed in a “neck” portion of the deflection yoke, which incorporates a horizontal deflection coil disposed on a saddle type mold die. A deflection yoke for deflecting electron beams of a color CRT includes a horizontal deflection coil disposed on a saddle type mold die that has a funnel section and a neck section connected along a horizontal axis parallel to the centerline of the deflection yoke. A portion of the neck section of the deflection yoke includes an offset relative to the profile (relative to the horizontal axis) of the windings of the horizontal coil that creates a depressed area in the windings of the horizontal deflection coil.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2001Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Yoshihiko Usami

Patent number: 6573648Abstract: A deflection yoke for deflecting electron beams of a color cathode ray tube includes a saddle type horizontal deflection coil, which has a front bend section and a neck bend section. The neck bend section includes a pair of openings in the winding distribution. Each of the openings is disposed at a disposition angle relative to a horizontal axis through the neck bend section of approximately ten degrees and at a predetermined distance from a center of the neck bend section within a range from approximately three millimeters to approximately fifteen millimeters. Each of the openings has a substantially triangular shape, trapezoidal or semicircular shape. A resulting XH and HCR mis-convergence curve of the deflection yoke of the present invention passes through the origin, thereby making it possible to simultaneously correct both XH and HCR mis-convergence to zero.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: June 3, 2003Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Yoshihiko Usami

Patent number: 6278348Abstract: A deflection yoke includes a horizontal coil having a modified wire route in the horizontal coil at one or more predetermined points, which are termed herein turning points, in the middle of the coil which is generating the main magnetic field. A deflection yoke includes a horizontal coil with a neck side and a funnel side, and a window defined by a wire route. The window is disposed in the horizontal coil and has a substantially rectangular shape when viewed in cross section. The wire defines an outline of the window. The wire includes a first portion and a second portion. The wire originates at a first predetermined angle on the neck side of the horizontal coil, and splits into the first and second portions at a first turning point. The first portion is rerouted at a second predetermined angle on the funnel side of the horizontal coil. The second portion turns away from the first portion at an approximately right angle.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignees: Sony Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc.Inventor: Yoshihiko Usami

Patent number: 5747924Abstract: There is provided a picture distortion correcting apparatus for correcting substantially improves a magnetic field correcting effect in which a special picture distortion corrected even when the same magnet volume as a conventional magnet is used. Rod-shaped magnets for correcting picture distortion are attached on the outside of a cathode ray tube corresponding to the upper and lower screen portions. Both the magnetic poles of the rod-shaped magnets 26 and 28 are bent toward the tube axis of the cathode ray tube. The transverse cross section of the rod-shaped magnet may have an inverse U shape. By making both the magnetic poles bent toward the tube axis of the cathode ray tube, the magnetic field correcting effect is improved, and a special picture distortion can be corrected effectively without making the magnet larger and without using a plurality of magnets.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Assignee: Sony CorporationInventor: Yoshihiko Usami
