Abstract: A copying machine includes an original feeding unit for feeding an original to a platen, a reading unit for reading an image of the original fed by the original feeding unit, a reducing unit for reducing the image supplied from the reading unit, a storing unit for storing a plurality of images supplied from the reducing unit in a predetermined area, an input unit for entering information regarding an orientation of the images of the original, a control unit for use in changing the area where the image is to be stored by the storing unit depending on the information regarding the orientation supplied from the input unit, and a recording unit for recording a plurality of images stored in the storing unit on a single sheet.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus reads color images, identifies the colors of an read color image, converts the color image into a monochrome image, synthesizes color recognition information on the monochrome image, and prints the resulting synthesized image as a monochrome image. As a result, even if a low-priced printer is employed, it is possible to provide a monochrome image permitting recognition of the colors of the color original, or quick identification of differences among the colors thereof. Moreover, this allows a user to specify a desired graphic pattern to be associated with a given color, and to obtain collation tables independently of the monochrome image, or to print the specified graphic pattern with any variable magnification power.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus having a timer function includes a main switch for manually switching between supply and interruption of electric power to the apparatus, a detector for detecting whether the main switch is in a power-interruption state or in a power-supply state, a memory for storing a state indicating that the main switch is in a power-interruption state when it has been detected that the main switch is in a power-interruption state, a controller for placing the apparatus in a standby state in which an image can be formed or in a shutdown state in which an image cannot be formed during a preset time period, and a power supply for supplying power to the controller, wherein the apparatus is placed in a standby state even by a set shutdown time period in the case a power-interruption state is stored and wherein the apparatus is placed in a shutdown state during the set shutdown time period in the case the power-interruption state is not stored.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus for converting color images into monochromatic pattern images. The image processing apparatus includes: means for detecting the area of a color image; means for converting a color image into a monochromatic pattern image; and control means for varying such image processing in accordance with the result of detection made by the means for detecting the area. When a thin line is detected in a color area, the method of processing is determined based on the width of the detected thin line. For example, when the width of the thin line is smaller than a predetermined value, the area of such thin line may be outputted as a plain image instead of a pattern image so that it may easily be seen or recognized. The contour of a color area may be made conspicuous by combining a plain image and a pattern image.
