Patent number: 6336142Abstract: To provide an improved information processing apparatus and a method for controlling the same, which enables to smoothly transfer data, such as processed results obtained from execution of an application program, an HTML file acquired from a Web server in accordance with the TCP/IP protocol or the like, to an external device (PDA) by using an infrared communication function. The disclosed information processing apparatus periodically accesses a predetermined server machine (e.g., a Web server) to acquire a desired file (e.g., an HTML file). This file acquisition operation is carried out without the involvement of operations of an infrared transceiver. In other words, the information processing apparatus attempts to continually perform caching of the most recent download data.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2000Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Naotaka Kato, Yoshihisa Kanada

Patent number: 6307883Abstract: The subject invention improves tracking performance of an adaptive equalizing operation while reducing the calculation volume. A frame including a training sequence and a mixed data sequence in which at least one symbol of a whitened sequence is dispersively inserted into a data sequence is generated. The frame is converted into a wireless signal, which is then transmitted. The wireless signal of the frame is received. Tap coefficients of an equalization filter are set by using the training sequence in the frame. During reception of the mixed data sequence, an adaptive operation is performed by using the respective symbols of the whitened sequence in the frame and the tap coefficients of the equalization filter are updated.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1997Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: IBM CorporationInventors: Yoshihisa Kanada, Hiroshi Ishikawa

Patent number: 5793802Abstract: A mobile radio station for communicating with a beta system can be constructed without providing means for calculating optimum tap gains, the size of a device can be reduced, and power consumption can be saved. A mobile station which tries to start communication sends a communication slot assignment request to a base station at a transmission speed which is so low that a transversal filter is not needed. The base station assigns this mobile station a communication slot and sends information on this communication slot assignment to the mobile station at the transmission speed which is so low that a transversal filter is not needed. The mobile station sends a training sequence to the base station with the assigned communication slot at a high speed. The base station calculates optimum tap gains of the transversal filter from the training sequence held therein and a signal actually received by the an adaptive equalizing mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Yoshihisa Kanada, Hiroshi Ishikawa

Patent number: 5557754Abstract: To enable a computer system such that each local arbiter is supposed to output its own priority as the right to use the bus on a common arbitration bus through open-collector-type drivers to determine a winner in arbitration, to expand the bus by way of a channel different from bus signal lines. Certain representation features 73 and 79 having the functions of a local arbiter that represent the arbitration level of the other bus are provided in both a primary system and a secondary system linked via a channel in a signal transmission mode different from the signal transmission mode of the bus. Arbitration is first conducted on each of the buses of the primary and secondary system to determine winners in arbitration. Notification of the arbitration level of each winner is made through a channel to the representation feature on the other bus.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1993Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Hironao Sone, Kazuo Sekiya, Hiroshi Ishikawa, Yoshihisa Kanada

Patent number: 5550560Abstract: A system and method for detecting when an operator selects one of multiple objects from a projected image. Image data, object data and relative position data drive a liquid crystal unit to form on a screen a composite display of both image and objects. When the operator presses a switch, a signal including the state of brightness from an optical sensor is entered into a brightness determinator of a personal computer. The brightness determinator initiates the determination of the brightness and then the object controller varies the brightness of each object. Along with the change in the brightness of objects, the brightness determinator decides the object indicated based on the brightness detected by the optical sensor to cause an object correspondence processor to effect the processing (conversion of a display) corresponding to the object selected by the operator.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1995Date of Patent: August 27, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Yoshihisa Kanada, Kiyokuni Kawachiya, Ichiro Shiio

Patent number: 5473669Abstract: A system and method enables the reception of signals on a moving Personal Station (PS) within an Integrated Voice and Data (IVD) system which integrates sound and data, and comprises an available PBX and LAN. A first Cell Station (CS) registers the LAN identifier of a first PS that is positioned within its own radio cell, and assigns a PBX telephone number to the first PS. Subsequently, calling information which includes a LAN identifier for a second PS and the PBX telephone number assigned to the first PS is broadcast via a LAN. Thereafter, a second CS which registers the LAN identifier of the second PS receives the calling information via a LAN and transfers the information of the second PS, or mobile station, via radio link. The second PS then dials the PBX telephone number included in the calling information. Thus, the link between the first PS and the second PS is connected when the first PS receives the call.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1994Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Yoshihisa Kanada, Yoshihiko Terashita, Masaaki Kasuya, Yukari Katoh

Patent number: 5386567Abstract: A computer having slots for attachment of expansion adapters contains means enabling the system formed by the computer and attached adapters to reconfigure automatically, when an adapter is either inserted into an empty slot or removed from an occupied slot, while the system is fully powered and in an application running state. Insertion of an adapter into an empty slot is detected by an adapter detection mechanism. The mechanism signals a programmed resource manager element in the computer, via an interrupt or the like, and the resource manager then sequences the computer and inserted adapter through a series of mechanical and electrical reconfiguring operations. In these operations, the adapter is physically locked into place relative to the slot, supplied with power from a source in the computer, and signal conduction paths through the slot are activated.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1992Date of Patent: January 31, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Yeong-Chang Lien, Hironao Sone, Kazuo Sekiya, Yoshihisa Kanada
