  • Publication number: 20080225340
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a judging unit that judges whether a result of image processing performed on an area satisfies a certain processing end condition and a stopping unit that stops the image processing when judgment of the judging unit is affirmative.

  • Publication number: 20080181500
Abstract: When encoding each element in numeral string data, a code-string data creating unit creates code string data by assigning a code to a focused element to be encoded based on a magnitude relation between the focused element and an element adjacent to the focused element. An control unit stores primary data and the code string data as registration information in an associated manner into a storage unit. When searching for the primary data, a data extracting unit and the code-string data creating unit create code string data from image data, and a searching unit searches data stored in the storage unit based on the created code string data as search information for data having registration information that matches the search information.

  • Publication number: 20060210195
Abstract: An apparatus, method, system, computer program and product, each capable of detecting an orientation of characters in a document image are disclosed. The orientation of the characters is determined based on a detection result, which indicates the degree of similarity between a character line of the document image having a selected orientation and trained data of the upright position.

  • Publication number: 20060018544
Abstract: An apparatus and method for extracting a predetermined number of consecutive characters from a document image; converting the consecutive characters into a set of symbols using layout information obtained from the consecutive characters; and detecting an orientation of the consecutive characters using occurrence probabilities of the set of symbols.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 19, 2005
    Publication date: January 26, 2006
    Inventor: Yoshihisa Ohguro
  • Publication number: 20050027511
Abstract: A language such as English or a language group such as an Asian language group is recognized based upon document image data. The document image data is processed to determine a minimal circumscribing rectangle for each character. The layout characteristics of the minimal circumscribing rectangles are quantified in a discrete number of ranges. The layout characteristic information includes a certain ratio with respect to the minimal circumscribing rectangle height and width as well as a black pixel density in the minimal circumscribing rectangle. Based upon the quantified layout characteristic information, an occurrence probability of a predetermined number of characters is determined using training data for a predetermined number of languages. The occurrence probability is stored in a table for later reference for an unknown input language.
