  • Publication number: 20100142346
Abstract: On a recording medium, data is recorded on at least one of a plurality of recording layers by laser light incident on a surface of the recording medium. The plurality of recording layers include a first recording layer, and second through N-th recording layers (N is an integer of 3 or greater) which are sequentially located in a direction from the first recording layer toward the surface on which the laser is incident. The plurality of recording layers each have a first calibration area and a second calibration area located outer to the first calibration area. The first calibration area located in each of the first through N-th recording layers is located at a different radial position from a radial position of the first calibration area in each of the other recording layers; and the second calibration area located in each of the first through N-th recording layers is located at the same radial position as a radial position of the second calibration area in each of the other recording layers.

  • Publication number: 20100110850
Abstract: OPC areas are used for adjusting recording parameters (power and strategy). In an optical disc including two recording layers, the recording power for one recording layer is likely to be influenced by a transmittance variance or the like provided by the recording state of the other recording layer (either already recorded or unrecorded). In addition, recording is performed while changing the power. For these reasons, the OPC areas are located so as not to be at the same radial positions among the recording layers. However, as the number of recording layers is increased, the area size for securing the OPC areas is increased, which may undesirably lead to an increase of the lead-in zone or the lead-out zone (decrease of the user data zone) and a decrease of the OPC area size in each recording layer (decrease of the number of times of usage by the user).

  • Publication number: 20100103793
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel physical structure for a multilayer optical information recording medium including a plurality of information recording layers, and a recording method and a recording/reproduction apparatus for such a recording medium using the same. The multilayer optical information recording medium according to the present invention includes a test recording area for performing test recording for data recording and/or reproduction conditions in at least one of an inner zone and an outer zone. The test recording area is categorized as one of at least two categories of test recording areas (OPC-A area and OPC-B area). In the OPC-B area, an upper limit value is set on a recording power for the test recording.

  • Patent number: 7652700
Abstract: To achieve more appropriate interpolation of a missing pixel, an image is input to a processing section for interpolation. The interpolation is applied utilizing image data of pixels located around the pixel to be interpolated. Specifically, correlations between the image data of the pixels to be interpolated, and pixel data in a horizontal direction, vertical direction, and diagonal direction, are compared to one another; pixel data having stronger correlation is used for the interpolation. Correlation between the image data of the pixels to be interpolated and which direction is strong is determined, so that different weighting for interpolation is used accordingly.
