  • Patent number: 5156356
Abstract: A seat belt retractor comprises a frame including a pair of opposite side walls and a rear wall extending between the side walls, a seat belt take-up reel extending between the side walls of the frame, a first gripping member mounted to the rear wall of the frame to grip a seat belt, a shaft extending between the side walls of the frame, a second gripping member having a support hole at one end to receive the shaft whereby the second gripping member is pivotally supported by the frame, the second gripping member being rotated between a position where the other, free end of the second gripping member is overlapped with the first gripping member and a position remote from the first gripping member, and locking means for moving the second gripping member to overlap with the first gripping member in emergency situations of a vehicle, wherein the second gripping member has a front edge to contact with the seat belt faster than any other portions when the second gripping member is rotated in such a direction as to

  • Patent number: 5154368
Abstract: A seat belt retractor comprising a first emergency lock mechanism for locking a reel shaft around which a seat belt is wound and a second emergency lock mechanism for sandwiching and locking said seat belt drawn out from the reel shaft by a rotatable member which pivots on one of its ends. The rotatable member has a deformable portion which is deformed so that the distance from the center of rotation to the sandwiching face of the seat belt may be shortened.

  • Patent number: 5127598
Abstract: Disclosed is a seat belt retractor in which first and second locking members 14, 16 are engaged with a ratchet wheel 13 independently of each other via a link member 18 when sudden acceleration is sensed. Owing to this engagement between the first and second locking members 14, 16 and the ratchet wheel 13, first emergency locking means 15 locks a reel shaft 11 against rotation while second emergency locking means 17 locks a seat belt 12. Accordingly, the first emergency locking means 15 and second emergency locking means 17 operate independently of each other, and it is possible to readily adjust the timing at which the reel shaft is locked against rotation and the timing at which the seat belt is locked by being clamped.
