Patent number: 4920902Abstract: An automatic pattern sewing machine includes a memory for storing blocks of data for controlling the sewing of an applique piece on a base cloth. A separate sheet of paper is printed with a set of patterns corresponding to different sizes of an applique pattern of one type and with corresponding identification marks. The applique piece is prepared in conformity with the printed pattern of the selected size and the assigned printed identification mark is entered into the machine by a selecting key to activate a coordinate transforming means which adjust the stored data to the selected size of the pattern. The applique piece is then stitched along its perimeter onto the base cloth according to the adjusted information.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: Janome Sewing Machine Co. Patent number: 4553544Abstract: A suturing instrument for surgical operations is operated by an operator with his one hand. A suturing operation is carried out on a human part to be sutured up by crossing a needle thread and a shuttle thread in a lock stitching formation, the instrument being composed of independent members which are, for use, connected to each other easily, exactly and speedily. The main body of the instrument carrying a needle and a shuttle has an externally operated actuating member which actuates a signal generator incorporated in a connecting arrangement for connecting the main body with the drive part of the instrument, whereby when the drive part is connected to the main body by the connecting arrangement an operator may, by moving the actuating member, activate the drive through the signal generator and set all the parts of the instrument into operating positions.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1984Date of Patent: November 19, 1985Assignee: Janome Sewing Machine Co. Patent number: 4478161Abstract: A double-function sewing machine, which is provided with a lock stitch forming mechanism and an overlock stitch forming mechanism, has a common driving source and a common flywheel for the two mechanisms. The sewing machine is provided with a switching device which includes a switch key connected to the flywheel of the machine. The switch key is selectively switchable to engage the shaft of the lock stitch-forming mechanism or a drive of the overlock stitch-forming mechanism. The switching device further includes a switching pawl which is engageable with and disengageable from the drive of the overlock stitch forming mechanism to hold the latter when the lock stitch forming mechanism is operated.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1983Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.Inventors: Susumu Hanyu, Noboru Kasuga, Reishi Nomota, Yoshikazu Ebata

Patent number: 4440171Abstract: A surgical suturing instrument crosses and knots a suturing thread combining a shuttle and the other suturing thread passing through an eye of a curved needle in a lock stitching practice, for accomplishing smooth passage of passing the shuttle through a loop of the needle thread and exact combination of the shuttle thread and the needle thread without getting out the shuttle from a shuttle holder during the suturing operation so as to form sound suturing stitchings every time. The shuttle is accommodated between a shuttle holder and a shuttle claw. The shuttle is formed with a front end portion movable between a guide groove in the shuttle claw and a guide groove in the shuttle holder. The shuttle is further formed with a sharp end for catching a thread loop in the suturing operation.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1982Date of Patent: April 3, 1984Assignee: Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.Inventors: Reishi Nomoto, Masayoshi Takahashi, Yoshikazu Ebata
