  • Patent number: 8156881
Abstract: A steering shaft is rotatably supported on a body by a housing, and a slide portion having a handlebar attachment portion at the top is attached to the steering shaft. The rotational movement of a handlebar around the central axis of the steering shaft is regulated by a rotation regulating mechanism, while the axial translation of the handlebar is allowed. The steering shaft is provided with a plurality of grooves. A lock mechanism provided in the slide portion inserts a locking bar into any one of the grooves to regulate the axial translation of the slide portion. Owing to the shape of a link portion and a cam groove constituting the lock mechanism, the locking bar is not pulled, out of the groove by operations other than a release operation using a release lever.

  • Patent number: 6022250
Abstract: An improved mounting arrangement for a twin jet propulsion unit eases the assembly of the system, as well as enhances the performance of the system. A unified mounting plate supports the propulsion units and offer a degree of adjustability which permits the propulsion units to be precisely aligned with desired longitudinal axes defined by the watercraft hull, as well as with each other. In addition, the rigidity provided by the mounting plates tends to hold the propulsion units, which cantilever rearward from the mounting plates, in the desired positions. As a result, additional support structure and fasteners can be removed from between the jet propulsion units and they can be spaced closer together so as to generally match a desired spacing between the inlet openings of the associated intake ducts.

  • Patent number: 5240443
Abstract: Several embodiments of jet propelled watercraft wherein the jet propulsion unit has a water inlet opening forming portion that is movable between a driving position in which water may be drawn through the opening and a service position wherein the opening may be accessed for servicing. A screen is fixed relative to the water inlet opening of the jet propulsion unit and cooperates with a corresponding opening in the hull to force all water entering the water inlet opening to pass through the screen when the jet propulsion unit is in its driving position. However, the screen is spaced from the water inlet opening forming portion of the jet propulsion unit in its service position so as to permit servicing of the jet propulsion unit water inlet opening without removal of the screen. A variety of interlock arrangements are disclosed so as to preclude driving of the jet propulsion unit when it is not in its driving position.

  • Patent number: 5184966
Abstract: A jet propelled watercraft that is pivotal about a transversely extending horizontally disposed axis for raising the jet propulsion unit from the body of water in which it is operating and also for trim adjustment of the jet propulsion unit. A trim plate is affixed to the under side of the jet propulsion unit and spans a pair of side walls defining the tunnel opening in which the jet propulsion unit is received for providing trim adjustment of the watercraft upon trim movement of the jet propulsion unit. Sealing arrangements are disclosed for providing sealing around the jet propulsion unit water inlet opening during the trim adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5176547
Abstract: A water jet propelled watercraft having a hull defining a downwardly facing water inlet opening and a jet propulsion unit contained within the hull and having a water inlet opening portion through which water is drawn, an impeller portion containing an impeller for drawing the water and a discharge nozzle portion through which the water pumped by the impeller is discharged for powering the watercraft. The jet propulsion unit is supported for pivotal movement within the hull about a transversely extending horizontal axis. The water inlet opening of the jet propulsion unit water inlet portion and a corresponding portion of the hull water inlet opening are defined by mating flanges that lie in a plane that contains the horizontal pivotal axis to minimize sealing pressure variations on the seal therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5151057
Abstract: A watercraft propelled by a jet propulsion unit that is positioned within a tunnel in the underside of the watercraft. The jet propulsion unit is supported for pivotal movement about a horizontally extending transverse pivot access and the housing of the jet propulsion unit is divided into separate components so that the water inlet portion may be rotated to an upwardly facing service position without rotation of the discharge nozzle, steering nozzle, or reverse thrust buckets associated therewith. As a result, an extremely rigid support is accomplished which nevertheless permits ease of servicing.
