Abstract: A monitoring apparatus includes: a monitoring camera to monitor a situation of a specific area; a recorder to record monitoring information output from the monitoring camera; a video transmission device to transmit the monitoring information recorded in the recorder to the outside; a determination unit to calculate, based on the monitoring information output from the monitoring camera, the number of people present in the specific area and a degree of positional imbalance of the people; and an adjustment unit to adjust, based on the number of people and the degree of positional imbalance calculated by the determination unit, at least one of a recording density to be used when the recorder records the monitoring information or a communication frequency to be used when the video transmission device transmits the monitoring information.
