  • Patent number: 5229861
Abstract: A manuscript picture is inputted at a picture input unit (10) as a set of pixels having a density value. On the plate, cells corresponding to inputted respective pixels are engraved by a stylus (32). The stylus is vibrated by a drive device (33) and is scanned on the plate by a scanning mechanism (31). Functions (A, B, C, D) for converting density values for respective pixels to cell width values indicating sizes of cells to be engraved are prepared. Thus, cell width values corresponding to density values provided at the picture input unit are generated. The stylus engraves cells corresponding to cell width values generated. The manuscript picture is dealt separately every a plurality of picture areas (A0, A1, A2). Conversions using different functions are applied to pixels within different picture areas. To the picture area of character/solid tone, new unique functions (B, D) are applied in order that a more distinct pictorial image is provided.

  • Patent number: 5117754
Abstract: An offset sheet-fed press is provided with a cleaning apparatus for an impression cylinder. The cleaning apparatus includes a cleaning unit which includes a frame member, a magazine roll provided with a spring brake for a cleaning cloth, a wind-up roll for winding up the cleaning cloth while stepwisely transferring the cleaning cloth by a wind-up torque motor, guide rolls for guiding the cleaning cloth so that the cleaning cloth faces the outer surface of the impression cylinder between the magazine roll and the wind-up roll, and a plurality of air cylinders arranged in parallel and disposed on the rear surface side of the cleaning cloth facing the impression cylinder. The cleaning unit further includes a cleaning cloth press assembly provided with a linear press blade linerally pressing the cleaning cloth against the impression cylinder on the side of the magazine roll, a plate-like guide disposed on the side of the wind-up roll and a surface press pad pressing the surface of the impression cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5030833
Abstract: An ultraviolet beam from an ultraviolet radiation source is projected to an object having a fluorescent substance such as an adhesive-applied position on a continuous sheet of paper which is being transported and the luminous emission from the fluorescent substance is detected by light reception elements in a detection unit. In this case, at least more than two light reception elements are provided and the arithmetic process of the value of the output from each of the light reception elements is executed by a control computer disposed in a device main body. The value thus obtained is compared with a comparison value stored in storage means, thereby detecting the failure or the degree of adhesive application. When the failure of adhesive application is detected, an alarm buzzer is actuated while a lamp is turned on.

  • Patent number: 4991507
Abstract: A cleaning system for offset sheet-fed printing presses according to the present invention comprises a magazine roll for reeling-out cleaning cloth to perform the cleaning of the impression cylinder, a take-up roll to take-up this cleaning cloth, a blade provided between the magazine roll and the take-up roll and in contact with the impression cylinder from behind the rear side of the cleaning cloth, and a guide member to bring the cleaning cloth pressed by the blade, into contact around the arcuate circumferential surface of the impression cylinder and in contact along the axial length of the impression cylinder. This cleaning system for offset sheet-fed printing presses additionally comprises a pressing member provided between the blade and the guide portion so as to press the arc-shaped contact portion of the cleaning cloth against the impression cylinder and preferably comprises a blade being provided so as to be freely capable of advancing and retreating with respect to the cleaning cloth.

  • Patent number: 4922821
Abstract: In a combination of a cleaning device of a cylinder of an offset sheet-fed press and a cylinder to be cleaned, the cleaning device is provided with a blade member as a cleaning cloth pressing member against the cylinder to be cleaned, the blade member having a relatively sharp edge pressing the cleaning cloth against the cylinder. The cylinder is an impression cylinder provided with sheet holding grippers projecting over the outer peripheral surface of the impression cylinder. The grippers are protected so as not to directly contact the cleaning cloth under the pressed condition by locating cam members to cover the grippers or by locating a cleaning device moving mechanism in a manner such that when the grippers approach the blade member during the rotation of the impression cylinder, the cleaning device is moved away therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4655865
Abstract: An infeed mechanism coacts with a splicer mechanism for splicing successive rolls of web and for feeding the continuous web thus obtained into a rotary press or the like via a web storage mechanism, which normally stores therein a predetermined length of the web for delivery to the press or the like during splicing operation. The infeed mechanism includes a pair of roll holder arms carrying on their opposite ends an old web roll, from which the web is being delivered to the press or the like, and a new web roll to be spliced to the old web. Toward the end of the web delivery from the old web roll the roll holder arms are turned through a preassigned angle, with the result that the web from the old web roll travels close to the periphery of the new web roll. Then the new web roll is revolved about its own axis until an adhesive region thereon comes opposite to the old web.

  • Patent number: 4636276
Abstract: An automatic adhesive double coated tape applying device generally comprises a base assembly constituting essential structure of the device, an assembly for supporting the base assembly to be movable in a direction toward or apart from a material to which the tape is applied, and an assembly for shifting the base assembly along the surface of the material. A composite tape consisting of a pressure sensitive adhesive double coated tape and a tape to be separated therefrom is fed from a reel member mounted on the base assembly at a cutting position at which only the adhesive double coated tape is cut. The composite tape is then fed below a flexible pressing brush by which the adhesive double coated tape is bonded on the material by a predetermined length in accordance with the movement of the base assembly along the surface of the material and the tape separated from the adhesive double coated tape is then wound around another reel member.

  • Patent number: 4597820
Abstract: The web leading edge of a paper roll for a rotary press or the like is held and prevented from raveling by three or more pieces of strong adhesive tape during handling and loading onto a paper feed machine of the printing press. On the paper feed machine, perforated tear lines are formed across the tape pieces by a device comprising a rotary perforating wheel, a mechanism for moving the wheel from one end to the other of the roll and also moving it against and away from all of the tape pieces, and a tape detecting device and a controller for automatically operating the mechanism. The tape pieces can then be easily torn to release the web leading edge immediately prior to web splicing.
