    Abstract: A sealed prismatic battery according to the present invention comprises a laterally long cap sealing an opening of an upper surface of a battery can and a safety vent placed on the cap and having a thin-walled valve body which opens in an abnormal rise of a battery internal pressure. The safety vent has an oval-shaped circumferential groove formed inside an oval-shaped coining section provided on an outer surface of the cap and on one end side in a lateral direction of the cap and a thin-walled valve body surrounded thereby, and the oval-shaped circumferential groove is composed of lateral side sections parallel to the lateral direction of the cap and circular arc sections connecting these lateral side sections, with one lateral side section, other lateral side section, and the thin-walled valve body of the safety vent respectively having a thickness increased in this order.

    Abstract: There is provided a sealed prismatic battery having an opening vent excellent in reliability with use of a deformed state of a battery casing on occasion of abnormal increase in internal pressure of the battery. The battery casing is shaped like an oval quadrangle having a width in a direction of thickness smaller than a height in a longitudinal direction and a length in a lateral direction, and side walls of the casing that face in the lateral direction swell outward in the lateral direction so as to form circular-arc shapes in general. The opening vent is composed of a groove formed as a recess on the side wall. A distances from the upper end of the battery casing to the groove is set between 3 and 20% of the longitudinal height of the battery casing.

    Abstract: A sealed rectangular battery having a reliably operative explosion-proof valve is provided. A rectangular battery case 1 whose cross-section is oblong, the battery case having a prismatic shaped case body 5 with a bottom and a lid 6. An explosion-proof valve 2 is arranged near one of two opposing short sides of a main surface wall of the lid. The explosion-proof valve a V-cut groove 15 concavely formed in V-shaped or U-shaped in which a central bent part 15a is positioned at a central location in the main surface wall 6a of the lid, and a thin wall 16 formed by the V-cut groove. Cut grooves 18 connecting each of two ends of the V-cut groove and each of two long sides of the main surface wall of the lid which are parallel to each other, respectively, are cut and formed in the main surface wall of the lid.

The upper end portion of the current collector lead 7 is welded to the lower surface of the lead plate 17 and bent in a position located rather closer to the front wall of the battery can 1. The insulating plate 11 has a lid side insulating portion 22 held between the lid 3 and the lead plate 17 and a front sidewall 25 that extends downwardly from the front end side of the lid side insulating portion 22.

The welded portion includes a pair of fragile parts 11 having low weld strength and formed at the ends of two long sides 10a and 10b of the welded portion which are parallel to each other, respectively, The battery is appropriately prevented from exploding and strength of battery is sufficiently provided against an impact caused by fall or the like.

    Abstract: A sealed prismatic battery includes a laterally elongated cap that closes the upper surface of the opening of a battery can 1 and a safety vent that is provided at the cap and opens when the battery internal pressure abnormally rises. The safety vent has a looped groove that is formed recessed and located nearer to the left end of the cap on the outer surface side of the cap. The looped groove is annularly formed of front, rear, left and right groove portions into a laterally elongated prismatic shape, and the thickness of the bottom wall of the end side groove portion is thicker than that of the bottom walls of the other groove portions. The center side groove portion of the looped groove is formed into a circular arc shape curved convex toward the center side of the cap.
