  • Publication number: 20100008069
Abstract: In a backlight apparatus, laminated optical sheets are housed in a tray such that a wall portion thereof surrounds their circumferences so that the optical sheets receive light from fluorescent lights. Tips of one corner portion A of optical sheets preferably have a shape in which the tips are trimmed by line segments extending between two edges defining the corner portions. At the wall portion of the tray, an opposing surface is formed along the line segments of the corner portions so as to correspond to the shape of the corner portions having tips trimmed off. The opposing surface restrains the line segments.

  • Publication number: 20090310061
Abstract: A cold cathode tube 15 includes an elongated glass tube 18, which has a primary-seal-side end portion 31 as one end portion thereof and a secondary-seal-side end portion 33 as the other end portion thereof. An electrode 19 is enclosed in each end portion 31, 33 of the glass tube 18. A ferrule 20 is attached to the outer side of each end portion 31, 33, and is connected to the corresponding electrode 19. The ferrule 20A-1 attached to the primary-seal-side end portion 31 and the ferrule 20B-1 attached to the secondary-seal-side end portion 33 differ in color of the entire surface from each other. • Publication number: 20090278788
Abstract: In a discharge tube, a conductive ferrule is provided on an end portion of a glass tube. The ferrule includes a body that is to be mounted to the outer circumference of the glass tube and has a contact portion to be electrically conductively fixed to a relay connector (or a bearing device). Further included is a conductive portion that extends from the body so as to have elastic contact with an outer lead. The outer lead will not be under load due to the weight of the discharge tube, but the conductive portion solely has elastic contact therewith. Thus, stress concentration on the outer lead can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20090280698
Abstract: An on-board connector 18 includes an output terminal 70 that is surrounded by a housing 60 made of synthetic resin. The output terminal 70 is arranged in an area of the housing 60 farther from the edge portion 17E of a circuit board 17 so that sectional arrangement is provided. The output terminal 70 is thus surrounded by the synthetic-resin housing 60, and thereby a leak at the output terminal 70 can be suppressed. Further, the output terminal 70 is arranged in the limited area of the housing 60 farther from the edge portion 17E of the circuit board 17, resulting in a long distance maintained between the output terminal 70 and the edge portion 17E of the circuit board 17, which can effectively prevent the leak.

  • Publication number: 20090262519
Abstract: An illumination device is provided on a backside of a display panel so as to irradiate a display panel with light, the illumination device including a plurality of rod-like light sources arranged in a planar configuration such that they do not cross each other, and columnar members being respectively provided adjacent to the rod-like light sources, each columnar member including a light incidence plane through which light emitted from a longitudinal direction of the rod-like light sources enters, a first light exit plane arranged to emit the incoming light from the light incidence plane toward the display panel, and a first light reflecting plane arranged to reflect the incoming light from the light incidence plane to the light exit plane. Therefore, with the illumination device applied as a direct backlight, it is possible to reduce luminance unevenness in both a front direction and oblique directions sufficiently, so as to reduce the luminance unevenness of the backlight sufficiently, as a whole.

  • Publication number: 20090244396
Abstract: A backlight device includes a hot cathode fluorescent tube having a pair of electrodes, a power source arranged to apply voltage having an alternating component to at least one of the pair of electrodes, and an electrode heating circuit arranged to supply heating current to the electrodes. The backlight device further includes temperature sensors that detect the temperatures in the electrodes to be supplied with the heating current. Based on the results detected by the temperature sensors a switch element is driven by the control section. The heating current is thus controlled. With this, the temperatures in the electrodes of the electrical discharge tube can be more accurately grasped, and the temperatures in the electrodes of the discharge tube can be more properly controlled.

  • Publication number: 20090227154
Abstract: A ferrule includes a body having a cylindrical shape. Elastic gripping portions are arranged on the body so as to bulge radially inwardly. The elastic gripping portions can have elastic contact with the outer circumferential surface of a glass tube. The body of the ferrule is mounted to the glass tube via the elastic gripping portions capable of elastic and radial deformation. Thereby, the variations in outer diameter of the glass tube can be absorbed, and therefore the dimensional control with high precision is not required for glass tubes at the time of manufacturing. This leads to cost reduction.

  • Publication number: 20090207587
Abstract: A lamp holding apparatus for mounting a lamp to a base member includes a mounting plate having a pair of locking portions protruding to a base side. The locking portion is inserted into a mounting hole provided at the base and capable of being locked to a peripheral edge on its back side. Abutting portions, which protrude to the base side and are capable of abutting the base at the time of mounting, are provided on a bottom surface of the mounting plate that is an opposing surface to the base. The abutting portions are provided at three spots with one of the locking portions interposed therebetween. At the time of mounting, each of the abutting portions abut the base, and the mounting plate is elastically deformed so as to be warped, whereby the locking surface of the locking portion is kept in the state in which it is locked to a peripheral edge of a back side of the mounting hole by its elastic force.

  • Publication number: 20090201666
Abstract: In a backlight module, when relay connectors exposed to a back side of a chassis are engaged with the connector portions of a lighting jig, the power from the power supply source of the lighting jig is supplied to discharge tubes via the connector portions and the relay connectors. Thereby, the discharge tubes can be lighted, even if a power board is not connected to the relay connectors. At the time, the lighting jig is arranged to face the back surface of the chassis, and therefore optical sheets can be mounted to the chassis from the front side.

  • Publication number: 20090161344
Abstract: A holding member has holders each holding one end of each of a plurality of parallelly drivable tube lamps and supplying electric power, outputted from a power source device, to the tube lamps. The holding member has buffer sections arranged to buffer thermal stress in the direction in which the tube lamps are arranged. With the holding member, the effect of the buffer section suppresses deformation of the tube lamps occurring in the direction in which the lamps are arranged, so that there is no possibility of lamp breakage due to repeatedly occurring deformation of the tube lamps.
