  • Patent number: 5974174
Abstract: In a picture-information processing apparatus, information of an edge in a picture is generated from information of luminances in the picture. Data of a mask corresponding to the edge is generated from the information of the edge. Information of feature points on an equal-luminance line in the picture is generated from the information of the luminances in the picture. The equal-luminance line is composed of segments extending between the feature points. A decision is made as to whether or not each of the segments of the equal-luminance line agrees with an edge line segment in response to the data of the mask and the information of the feature points. An edge decision signal is generated which represents the result of the decision. The edge decision signal is added to the information of the feature points.

  • Patent number: 5666440
Abstract: A bi-level image is represented by an array of pixels. Code words are generated which represent outline tracing directions defined at points between the pixels respectively. The outline tracing directions represented by the code words are determined in accordance with states of the pixels surrounding and adjoining the related points respectively. A movement from one of the points to another being one of neighboring points is performed in accordance with the outline tracing direction represented by the code word defined at the one of the points. The movement-performing is repeated to trace an outline of a region in the bi-level image. Data representing the traced outline is generated in accordance with addresses of the points along which the movements are performed.

  • Patent number: 5647024
Abstract: A method of compressing and decompressing a multi-dimensional image. Video data including luminance data distributed at least in two-dimensions is compressed for subsequent coding. The resulting codes are decompressed to reproduce the video data. A specific number of representative pixels are extracted from a plurality of pixels consisting of the digital signal of the video data. Texture data is also extracted from the digital signal of the video data. The representative pixels and the texture data are coded. The coded representative pixels and the texture data are then decoded. The video data is reproduced using the decoded representative pixels and the texture data.

  • Patent number: 5621819
Abstract: A multidimensional multi-valued image compression and decompression method obtains feature points satisfying a specific condition on an equi-luminance line set for each specific luminance value previously determined for an image luminance function, and transmits and records positions and luminance values at the feature points to restore an image. In compression, pixel contours are traced on the equi-luminance line set. Specific equi-luminance line passing point coordinates on the pixel contours are shifted to a central position of each pixel. In decompression, a region where the equi-luminance line on the image is a boundary is divided into a bright and a dark region according to a luminance threshold. The divided regions are filled with bright and dark symbols, respectively, to form a mask representative of the image based on the bright and dark symbols.

  • Patent number: 5583794
Abstract: A multidimensional image compression and decompression system wherein, during compression, regardless of how high or low the pixel density is in an image used as an object for processing image data, compressed image data is obtained by extracting only characteristic points included in the image. During decompression, luminance data of pixels except those corresponding to characteristic points are determined by an interpolational plane or solid body which in turn is determined by a plurality of adjacent characteristic points when a position and luminance value of the characteristic points are used for transmission, recording and restoration of images, with respect to image data distributed in two-dimensions and three-dimension when a time base is included. Therefore, it is possible to decompress the multidimensional compressed image using only a short calculation time.
