  • Patent number: 6636187
Abstract: A display has a panel, and first and second electrodes. The first and second electrodes define a matrix of cells on the panel. The second electrodes, which correspond to lines of the cells, are scanned to select the cell lines one by one. The first electrodes are driven to set display data for a selected one of the cell lines. The display also has a sequence setting unit for setting sequences of scanning the second electrodes, and a sequence selection unit for selecting one of the sequences that minimizes the current and power consumption of a first-electrode driver without deteriorating the quality of the displayed images.

  • Patent number: 6538389
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus includes a plurality of first electrodes, a plurality of second electrodes which are arranged in substantially parallel to the plurality of first electrodes and generate electric discharge with the plurality of first electrodes at gaps therebetween, a first drive circuit which applies an electric discharge voltage to the plurality of first electrodes, a second drive circuit which applies an electric discharge voltage to the plurality of second electrodes, and voltage fluctuation balancing units which are provided for wiring lines between the first and second drive circuits and the first and second electrodes, and each of which has a conductive plate layer overlapping at least part of the wiring lines so as to reduce a variation in voltage drops specific to the wiring lines by eddy currents generated in the conductive plate layer in response to currents running through the wiring lines.

  • Patent number: 6144349
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma display device which limits a generation of electromagnetic wave. The plasma display device has first and second drive circuits for applying a drive voltage to first and second display electrode pair. Further, a direction of a charge current flowing at said first display electrode pair when said drive voltage is applied by said first drive circuit is opposite on said plasma display panel to a direction of a charge current flowing at said second display electrode pair when said drive voltage is applied by said second drive circuit. According to the present invention, a transitional charge/discharge current, which is generated upon the application of a drive voltage to one of the display electrodes, and a light emission discharge current flow in opposite directions on the panel. Thus, electromagnetic waves that are generated by the inductances of the display electrode pair cancel each other out.

  • Patent number: 5943032
Abstract: A method of controlling the gray scale of a plasma display device has a forming step of forming a frame for an image by a plurality of subframes each having a different brightness, a setting step of setting the number of sustain emissions of each subframe in an anti-geometrical progression corresponding to the brightness of each subframe, and a displaying step of displaying the image on the plasma display device by a gray scale display having a specific brightness. The number of sustain emissions in each subframe is set individually by the each subframe, and this establishes a linear relation between the gray level and the corresponding brightness Therefore, an enhancement of display quality of the plasma display device can be realized.

  • Patent number: 5828353
Abstract: A triple-electrode planar display capable of achieving further power saving has been disclosed. A drive unit is dedicated to a planar display having a display panel in which cells being arranged in the form of a matrix and having a memory function and discharge glow function are formed, in which one of each pair of electrodes on the same substrate which are responsible for discharge glow is a common electrode connected in common. The drive unit includes a common electrode drive circuit for applying an alternating voltage to the common electrode, and a power save circuit that when the common electrode is changed from a high potential to a low potential, restores and accumulates power applied to the common electrode, and that when the common electrode is changed from the high potential to the low potential, applies accumulated power to the common electrode.
