  • Patent number: 8298091
Abstract: A steel ball rolling configuration and a constant velocity universal joint have a superior oil retention effect between a surface of a steel ball and a partner rolling surface, and can form a thick oil film, improve lubrication, and extend life of the steel ball. The constant velocity universal joint includes a rolling surface and a steel ball that is lubricated by grease and rolls over the rolling surface. A surface roughness of the steel ball is roughened to become more similar to a surface roughness of a partner rolling surface. Numerous miniscule recesses roughly tens of micrometers in size are randomly disposed on the surface of the steel ball.

Date of Patent: October 30, 2012
    Assignee: NTN Corporation

Abstract: The present invention provides a steel ball rolling configuration and a constant velocity universal joint that achieve a superior oil retention effect between a surface of a steel ball and a partner rolling surface, can form a thick oil film, improve lubrication, and extend life of the steel ball. The constant velocity universal joint of the present invention includes a rolling surface and a steel ball 7 that is lubricated by grease and rolls over the rolling surface. A surface roughness of the steel ball 7 is roughened to become more similar to a surface roughness of a partner rolling surface. Numerous miniscule recesses 15 roughly tens of micrometers in size are randomly disposed on the surface of the steel ball 7.

  • Patent number: 6322453
Abstract: A perpendicular distance (PCR1) between a centerline (L1) including the center (O3) of the outer circumference surface (4b) of an outer roller (4), orthogonal to axis Z of a trunnion (2a) and a joint center O is shifted by &Dgr;h (=PCR1−PCR2) from a perpendicular distance (PCR2) between a centerline (L2) including the center (O1) of the outer circumference surface (3b) of an inner roller (3), orthogonal to axis Z of a trunnion (2a) and a joint center O. Under the most favorable conditions, PCR2 is shifted by an optimal amount of &Dgr;H from PCR1 toward the proximal end of the trunnion, and the position of contact (S) between the inner circumference surface (4a) of the outer roller 4 and the outer circumference surface (3b) of the inner roller (3) is located on the centerline (L1) (on PCR1) of the outer circumference surface (4b) of the outer roller (4).

  • Patent number: 5788577
Abstract: An inner roller is rotatably fitted on a trunnion of a tripod member through a plurality of needle rollers and held in position against slipping off the trunnion by a slip-off preventing ring and a stopper ring mounted on the distal end of the trunnion.
