  • Patent number: 4739420
Abstract: In a system for recording and reproducing digital signals on a magnetic tape using a rotary head, in which the signals are recorded as a series of slanted tracks without guard bands, pilot signals that control tracking alignment of a playback head are recorded at particular positions in a specific pilot signal record region, independent of the information signal record region. Position detecting signals having various recording lengths are also recorded in the pilot signal region in such a manner that the start position of each position detecting signal corresponds substantially to the center portion of the pilot signal on an adjacent track.

  • Patent number: 4214756
Abstract: A record player includes an electro-magnetic member for applying to its tone arm an outside force which is varied to effectively cancel the inside force generated when the stylus located on the tone arm rides upon a rotating record disc. The record player further includes a detecting device for detecting the rotational position of the tone arm, and a computer which, as a function of the rotational position of the tone arm determined from a detecting signal supplied by the detecting device, generates an outside force control voltage which is sufficient, when supplied to the electro-magnetic member, to cancel the inside force. An additional electro-magnetic member may be used to apply a stylus pressure to the tone arm in response to a stylus pressure control voltage. The outside force control voltage may also be varied as a function of such a stylus pressure control voltage.

  • Patent number: 3949346
Abstract: A magnetoresistive element comprising a substrate, a first conducting ferromagnetic film strip having current carrying ability predominantly in one direction, a second current carrying ferromagnetic metal film strip on said substrate having a current carrying ability predominantly in a direction substantially perpendicular to said one direction, said first film strip being spaced from said second film strip by a distance equal to one-half the wave length or multiple thereof of the alternating magnetic field in the magnetoresistive element. The strips are serially connected together and a current input terminal is connected to the opposed end of said strips and an output terminal is connected to the junction between said strips.Further embodiments of the invention are disclosed in which one film strip is separated from another by a distance equal to a quarter wave length or odd multiple thereof of the alternating magnetic field in the magnetoresistive element.
