  • Patent number: 5052348
Abstract: A cooling system for an engine includes a cylinder block defining a water jacket therein, the water jacket having an inlet. A water pump housing is fixed to the cylinder block and a water pump suction cover is fixed to the housing and sealed thereto by a gasket. Together, they form a cooling water inlet passage. An integral projecting portion of the gasket projects into the water jacket inlet to guide water into the water jacket in a preferential direction.

  • Patent number: 4971525
Abstract: A hydraulic motor for driving a hydraulically driven fan system in a combustion engine includes both an oil pump and water pump in combination. The pump body and a pump cover together define a hollow chamber within which a shaft is rotatably mounted, the shaft supporting an oil pump rotor. A thrust plate in the hollow chamber coaxially aligns the pump body and pump cover and supports a first bearing for the shaft. The water pump is mounted in the pump cover and includes an impeller mounted on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4961404
Abstract: A cooling system for an internal combustion engine with an intercooler has a pump with a single drive shaft which drives two sets of vanes. One set of vanes circulates coolant through a circuit including the engine block, and the other circulates fluid through a circuit including the intercooler. Around the rotary impeller of the pump is a clearance to allow communication between the circuits. Thus, the intercooler can function as an intake air heater when cold-starting the engine, idling without supercharging, or operating the engine in the region of low engine rpm's.

  • Patent number: 4941801
Abstract: A water pump device includes a pump housing within which is rotatably mounted a pump shaft having a rotor mounted thereon. An annular partition wall is mounted on the housing and extends into the housing so as to form a planar extension of the rotor. The rotor and partition wall define first and second substantially independent pump chambers in the housing. Two sets of impellers are mounted on the rotor, one set of the impellers extending into each of the chambers. Liquid inlet and discharge conduits communicate with each of the chambers so that a double pump is formed in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4687132
Abstract: An automotive vehicle engine having a coolant circulation system with a radiator, a fan, and a thermostatic valve for controlling coolant flow through the radiator. This thermostatic valve starts to open at a first temperature, is fully opened at a second temperature, and is partly opened at an intermediate third temperature. A system for coupling the fan to a rotation engine member includes: a first member rotationally coupled to the rotating member; a second member rotationally coupled to the fan; and a mechanism for providing rotational coupling between the first and second members. The degree of rotational coupling is lower when a first control valve is closed than opened, and is lower when a second control valve is closed than opened.

  • Patent number: 4569803
Abstract: A dash pot device for application to a deceleration control system for delaying a return action to the engine idle speed position of a carburetor throttle valve for automobile engines. The device includes a body member having a partition wall dividing an interior of the body member into a diaphragm chamber and an air chamber, a diaphragm disposed within the diaphragm chamber, an air filter positioned within the air chamber, a shaft fastened to the diaphragm, a pinhole type orifice passage installed in the partition wall, and a check valve located in the partition wall and oriented parallel to the orifice passage.
