  • Patent number: 7000594
Abstract: An electronic control unit for controlling a fuel injection amount of a two-cycle internal combustion engine with an exhaust control valve wherein the electronic control unit comprises an injection amount determination means for determining the fuel injection amount at various control conditions, a valve abnormality detection means for detecting an abnormality of operation of the exhaust control valve, and an injector driving means for driving an injector so as to inject fuel of the amount determined by the injection amount determination means from the injector. The injection amount determination means determines the injection amount so that when the valve abnormality detection means detects the abnormality of operation of the exhaust control valve, an air-fuel mixture is made in a rich state.

  • Patent number: 6647933
Abstract: An electronic control unit for a two-cycle internal combustion engine including an exhaust control valve which adjusts exhaust timing, a valve controller which controls the exhaust control valve, and a reversal controller which controls reversing a rotational direction of the engine in accordance with an instruction for reversal. In order to raise the probability of a success in reversing the rotational direction of the engine by generating a stable combustion pressure during the reversal of the rotational direction, there is provided valve opening and closing operation inhibition means which inhibits an opening and closing operation of the exhaust control valve by fixing the exhaust control valve in a fully-closed position while the reversal controller is performing control to reverse the rotational direction of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6357398
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine is provided for a running equipment, which prevents from running in the direction opposed to the driver's intention when reversing the engine is failed although a driver executes a reverse process of reversing the rotative direction of the engine. The rotative direction of the internal combustion engine is detected so as to generate a rotative direction detection signal, and a reverse failure signal is generated when the rotative direction of the engine detected by these detection signals does not correspond to the rotative direction of the engine commanded by a reverse command. When the reverse failure signal is generated, fuel supply to the engine is stopped, and the engine is extinguished so as to stop the rotation.

  • Patent number: 6098574
Abstract: A rotational direction change-over control method capable of reversing a rotational direction of an internal combustion engine without discharging unburnt gas. When a reverse command is generated, feed of fuel to the engine is interrupted to reduce a rotational speed of the engine to a set level. An ignition position of the engine is advanced to an excessively advanced position during a reduction in rotational speed to the set level. When the rotational speed is reduced to the set level, feed of fuel is restarted to reverse a rotational speed of the engine. When judgment that the rotational speed is successfully reversed is made, the ignition position is transferred to a position near a top dead center, to thereby maintain rotation of the engine in a direction reversed.

  • Patent number: 5941216
Abstract: A method for controlling drive of an injector for an internal combustion engine which is capable of reducing a minimum injection quantity available for the control to increase a dynamic range of the injector is disclosed. A voltage across a solenoid coil is stepwise increased when a drive pulse is generated, so that a current fed to the solenoid coil is increased to a level higher than that of the drive current at the time when an injection valve starts port opening operation. Then, the drive current is gradually reduced toward a hold value required to hold the injection valve at a port opening position at a time-based variation ratio less than that of the drive current at the time when the voltage across the solenoid coil is stepwise decreased from a peak value, so that the voltage is stepwise reduced at the time when the drive pulse is extinguished, resulting in the drive current being extinguished.

  • Patent number: 5558065
Abstract: A method for driving an injector for feeding an internal combustion engine with fuel which is capable of improving starting characteristics of the engine. A power circuit is provided which functions to charge a power capacitor utilizing an output of a generating coil, so that feeding of an injection command signal permits a driving current to flow through a driving coil of an injector. A period of time required to permit charges in an amount necessary to drive the injector to be accumulated in the power capacitor is defined to be an injector drive prohibition period, during which generation of the injection command signal is prohibited, to thereby prohibit flowing of the driving current. The injector drive prohibition period is elapsed, so that a required amount of charges are accumulated in the power capacitor, followed by generation of the injection command signal, to thereby permit the driving current to flow the driving coil.

  • Patent number: 5216994
Abstract: A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine capable of being normally operated while using an output of a generator driven by the internal combustion engine as a power supply therefor. The system includes a switching circuit for switching a driving current fed to an injector from a main power circuit which uses the output of the generator as a power supply therefor. The switching circuit is controlled by a switch control circuit for which a power supply comprises a control power circuit. The control power circuit includes a storage unit for storing electric power therein, so that the storage unit may be act as a power supply when the output of the main power circuit is reduced, to thereby feed the switch control circuit with a power supply voltage of a level equal to or above an operable level.
