  • Publication number: 20010008158
Abstract: A pneumatic radial tire and a method for manufacturing the same, a device for forming a band of radial tire, and a method of and device for forming a belt-band-tread rubber assembly. The pneumatic tire including a belt arranged on the radially outer side or a carcass, and a band arranged on the radially outer side of the belt and composed of continuous one to several organic fiber cords wound spirally and approximately parallel to the circumferential direction of the tire. The radial tire manufacturing method including the steps of laminating the predetermined number of belt plies on a belt drum or belt ring for forming a belt, and winding one to several organic fiber cords continuously and spirally in the cicumferential direction of the belt on the outer surface of the formed belt in order to form a band.

  • Patent number: 5490897
Abstract: A tire former for use in a tire building apparatus, the tire former includes a center ring provided coaxially around a drum shaft and a pair of side rings provided coaxially around the drum shaft and on opposite sides of the center ring. The center ring consists of a plurality of circumferentially separatable ring segments. The side rings are movable closer to and away from each other along the shaft to selectively provide an axially expanded state where the side rings are positioned on opposite sides of the center ring and an outer circumferential surface of the side rings is flush with an outer circumferential of the center ring; and an axially contracted state where the side rings are positioned radially inside of the center ring.

  • Patent number: 5312502
Abstract: A tire fabricating method and apparatus for mounting a component assembly on a drum and applying a pressing force radially inward of the drum to thereby adhere a carcass, a breaker, and a tread constituting the component assembly to one another. Around the component assembly, first and second stitch roller members are arranged at positions adjacent to each other in a circumferential direction. While the drum is rotating, a fluid cylinder is elongated so as to press the first and second stitch roller members against an outer circumferential surface of the tread, and roller elements of the respective stitch roller members are moved away from each other from a center portion of the outer circumferential surface of the tread to opposite ends thereof so as to widen a spacing between the roller elements.

  • Patent number: 5288352
Abstract: A bead locking apparatus includes bead support segments disposed in an annular arrangement at each of the axially opposite ends of a building drum mounted on a rotary shaft, the support segments being movable outward or inward radially of the drum, an elastic ring fitted in an annular recess formed in the outer periphery of the annular arrangement of segments, a segment drive device for moving the bead support segments radially outward, and a device for radially expanding the elastic ring independently of the segments. The bead is first primarily locked by the elastic ring and then secondarily locked by the support segments.

  • Patent number: 5254204
Abstract: A bead locking apparatus for a tire building machine comprises a slider (1) in a form of an axially reciprocable sleeve disposed on a shaft (Fs) of a tire building machine. A plurality of bead locking segments (2) are circumferentially arranged on an outer surface of the slider (1), and the slider (1) has a tapered surface (3) on its outer face. The bead locking segments (2) each have an inclined inner surface (21) on which inner surface (21) the bead locking segment (7) slides on the slider tapered surface (3) to change its radial position according to reciprocation of the slider (1).

  • Patent number: 5248357
Abstract: A green tire building process wherein a cylindrical belt (B) comprising a tread (A) and a breaker (3) are applied around a toroidally shaped tire carcass (1) on a tire carcass building drum (13) to assemble a green tire. The breaker cushions (6) are fit to the inner circumferential surfaces of the opposite edge portions of the breaker (3) prior to applying the belt (B) around the tire carcass (1). The breaker cushions are fit to the breaker by first winding the cushions around axial end portions of a belt forming drum in a manner such that the diameter of the radially inner peripheral surfaces of the breaker cushions decrease in diameter towards the axially outer extremities of the drum and the radially outer surfaces of the cushions are generally flat. Then the breaker and tread are wound onto the breaker cushions to form the belt which is later removed from the belt forming drum before being applied onto the tire carcass.
