  • Patent number: 6842408
Abstract: An optical head 2 and a matrix circuit 3 cooperate, generating a signal form the light reflected from an optical disk 1. An evaluation-function generating circuit 5 generates an evaluation function from the signal reproduced from the optical disk 1. A controller 6 sets an initial focus value at a point where the evaluation function is minimal. The initial focus value is set in a servo circuit 7. The controller 6 sets an observation point deviating from the point at which it has set the initial focus value. The controller 6 corrects the initial focus value set in the servo circuit 7.

  • Publication number: 20020187833
Abstract: A game system including a stationary game machine requiring an external power supply, such as a coin-operable business-use game machine or a home game machine, and a portable game machine having an internal power supply. Game programs for raising game characters are installed in the stationary and portable game machines. The stationary game machine has more internal resources, and its programs support higher resolution video game data. The portable game machine has a vibration sensor for receiving input during play, resulting in the raising of the character. Each of these game machines are provided with a radio data transfer means through which a game result from a memory in one of the game machines can be transferred to a memory in the other game machine. The game machine receiving the game result can use that result in subsequent processing, such as for a starting point in further play or for creating video data that can be printed on a printer.

  • Publication number: 20020037162
Abstract: At a step S4 of a flowchart representing the operation of a disk drive, a recording or playback operation requested by the user is carried out. Then, the flow of the operation goes on to a step S5 to form a judgment as to whether or not to correct focus precision. If the focus precision is to be corrected, the flow of the operations goes on to a step S6 at which a command is issued to move an optical pickup from the current position to a location preceding the current position by 1 track. At the next step S7, the focus precision is corrected by playing back data already recorded on the location preceding the current position by 1 track.

  • Patent number: 5282485
Abstract: A jet pickling apparatus for pickling the surfaces of continuously moving sheet material (12) has tips of the nozzle headers (41-43) for discharging a pickling fluid (19) on the surfaces of the sheet and into a pickling tank (31) formed into a slit shape (41a-43a), and the nozzles (41,42) at the entrance side are installed to eject pickling fluid in the same direction as the running direction of sheet while the nozzle (43) at the exit side ejects the pickling fluid in the direction opposite to the running direction of the sheet. Therefore, there is no gas in the pickling tank (31) and the tank is filled with the pickling fluid (19), which eliminates the problems of floating of the sheet (12) and insufficient contact of the pickling fluid (19) with the sheet surfaces, allowing thorough pickling and improving the pickling effect.

  • Patent number: 5110218
Abstract: A plurality of thermocouples are embedded close to each other with individually different depth in a temperature detecting block. One or more of the temperature detecting block are attached to the surface of a thermal sensor roll. When the thermal sensor roll is held in contact with a metal strip being rolled, temperatures in the thermal sensor roll are measured at a plurality of points. The temperature of the metal strip in contact with the surface of the thermal sensor roll is calculated from the graduation of a temperature in the thermal sensor roll along a direction vertical to the surface of the thermal sensor roll, without the influence of disturbances. The obtained temperature value of the metal strip being rolled is compared with an experimentally obtained temperature of heat streak formation, to predict the formation of heat streaks with high accuracy.
