  • Publication number: 20140341597
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a latent image carrier to carry a latent image on a surface thereof, a developing device to develop the latent image with toner to form a toner image on the surface of the latent image carrier, a transfer unit to transfer the toner image onto a recording medium, and a controller. The controller executes an image density adjustment control of adjusting a developing bias to obtain a target image density. The controller further executes a forced toner consumption control of forcibly consuming the toner contained in the developing device by attaching the toner to the latent image carrier to form a toner pattern on the surface of the latent image carrier. The controller executes the forced toner consumption control to forcibly consume a smaller amount of toner in response to a higher developing bias as adjusted by the image density adjustment control.

  • Patent number: 8726834
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid applying apparatus which can inhibit a variation in application amount associated with the individual variability of a component of the apparatus. According to the present invention, a liquid holding space in which a liquid is held is formed between the applying member and the liquid holding member. When the applying member moves, the liquid attached to the applying member is fed out of the liquid holding space together with the applying member. The liquid is applied to a medium. The application amount of liquid applied to the applying medium varies depending on the individual variability of a component such as a liquid applying member. The variation in liquid application amount is adjusted by adjusting section for adjusting, the rotation speed of the liquid holding member or the flow speed of the liquid flowing through the liquid holding space.

  • Patent number: 8727519
Abstract: Provided are an inkjet printing apparatus and a method of controlling an inkjet printing apparatus whereby the performing of a suction discharge operation, for air bubbles that have penetrated inside an ink supply line, can be suppressed to a minimum necessary number of times, and whereby the ink discharge volume that accompanies air bubble suction discharge operations can be kept low. The volume of an air bubble that penetrates into an ink supply line is estimated on the basis of an elapsed time since the last air bubble suction discharge operation, and in addition, the volume of an air bubble that penetrates into the ink supply line during main tank installation is predicted. The suction discharge operation (choke suction operation) for suctioning out and discharging air bubbles is conducted when the sum of these estimated volumes becomes equal to or greater than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 8672441
Abstract: An inkjet printing apparatus is provided which minimizes the amount of inks consumed for preventing the sedimentation of ejected inks on the platen ink absorber and which can effectively prevent the sedimentation of inks. To this end, a comparison is made between the ejected volume of easily sedimenting inks and the ejected volume of sedimentation restraining inks in terms of ink components. If the ejected volume of the sedimentation restraining inks is found not enough, a required amount of sedimentation restraining ink is additionally ejected.

  • Publication number: 20130293631
Abstract: The invention has been made to prevent ink adhesion or an ink discharge failure caused by ink adhesion due to evaporation of volatile components of ink which occurs when the ink receptor of a printhead is exposed to air for a long time. If an inkjet printhead and an ink tank containing ink to be supplied to the printhead are attached to a carriage, the ink supply port of the ink tank is pressed to the ink receptor of the printhead. In this arrangement, the presence/absence of attachment of the ink tank to the carriage is detected. If it is detected that the ink tank is not attached to the carriage, a suction operation for the printhead is performed and controlled to suck out ink from the nozzles of the printhead.

  • Patent number: 8485620
Abstract: The inkjet printer can discharge a bubble in an ink flow path while suppressing ink consumption. Ink in an ink tank is supplied to a printing head through a flow path and filter. Bubbles in the flow path and printing head are discharged by applying a negative pressure to an ejection port of the printing head. At this time, after a first negative pressure has been applied to the ejection port with an on/off valve provided between the ink tank and the filter being closed, the on/off valve is opened to discharge the ink from the ejection port. Further, after that, a second negative pressure at a level that makes it difficult for a bubble to pass through the filter is applied to the ejection port to discharge a bubble present at a location, which is closer to the printing head than the filter is to printing head, from the ejection port together with the ink.

  • Patent number: 8449074
Abstract: In an ink jet printing apparatus using many types of inks to execute bidirectional printing, if ejection opening rows for yellow, magenta, and cyan inks are symmetrically arranged, ejection opening rows for a black ink are arranged adjacent to the most inside ejection opening rows for the yellow ink. Thus, a difference in color between forward scanning and backward scanning is determined by a difference in coloring between the black ink and the yellow ink. In this case, a possible color drift attributed to bidirectional printing can be suppressed by selecting the inks so that the difference in coloring between the black ink and the yellow ink is smaller than that between the black ink and the other color inks.
