Patent number: 7039992Abstract: A lathe 1 comprises a bed 5, a headstock 10 having a housing 13 and a support base 14, a main spindle 11, a first tool rest 44, and a second tool rest 50. The support base 14 is formed so as to have a concave portion 14a on the upper portion thereof and so that the upper portion protrudes toward the second tool rest 50. The tool rest body 51 of the second tool rest 50 is configured so as to be movable into and out of a space formed downward from the upper portion of the support base 14. The housing 13 has a holding hole 13a for rotatably holding the main spindle 11, and installation portions 13b. The installation portions 13b are supported on the support base 14 in a state wherein a predetermined clearance is provided between the housing 13 and the concave portion 14a.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2004Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Mori Seiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tsutomu Tokuma, Yoshinori Sakashita

Patent number: 6945147Abstract: A clamping device for machine tools is disclosed that is capable of ensuring the clamping force for a tailstock while maintaining a small overall size of the device and a reduced number of parts. The tailstock (movable carriage) movably mounted on a fixed bed is clamped at a specified position to the fixed bed. A stationary rack (stationary fitting member) extending in a direction of movement is fixed to the fixed bed. A movable rack (movable fitting member) is provided on the tailstock so as to be movable in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the tailstock. Wedge-shaped fitting surfaces are formed at mutually opposing portions of the stationary rack and the movable rack. The movable rack is driven to perform advance-and-retreat motions between a clamping position where the movable rack fits together with the stationary rack and an unclamping position where the clamping state is released.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2003Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: Mori Seiki Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yoshinori Sakashita

Patent number: 6370994Abstract: The invention provides a clamping device for machine tools capable of preventing the occurrence of impressions. In a clamping device for machine tools, a tailstock (movable carriage) is provided on a top face of a fixed bed and the tailstock is positioned and fixed with respect to the fixed bed. The tailstock is supported by linear-motion bearings (guides) which are disposed between the tailstock and the fixed bed. Blocks are slidably engaged with rails extending in the travel direction with rollers interposed between them. Further, a recess portion extending in the travel direction is formed in the top surface of the fixed bed. A cylinder mechanism is arranged so that left and right inner walls in the recess portion are pressed by a pair of pistons provided on the undersurface of a headstock.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2001Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Mori Seiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masamitsu Nakaminami, Yoshinori Sakashita
