  • Publication number: 20020176791
Abstract: A plurality of pump units are juxtaposed for conjointly metering ink to an offset printing press. Each pump unit has a piston slidably received in a cylinder having formed therein a suction port and a discharge port at circumferential spacings. Conventionally pressure-tightly closed at one end, the cylinder has the piston projecting from the other end thereof. The projecting end of the piston is coupled to a drive motor via a drive linkage such that the piston both rotates and linearly reciprocates with each complete revolution of the motor for drawing ink into the cylinder through the suction port and forcing it out through the discharge port. A cylinder end seal is provided for sealing said other end of the cylinder against the leakage of the printing ink.

  • Patent number: 5970870
Abstract: An offset perfecting press is disclosed which has a pair of blanket cylinders on opposite sides of a web traveling along a predefined path. Bearing different images to be printed, two plate cylinders are disposed in circumferentially spaced apart positions on each blanket cylinder. Each plate cylinder is independently movable between an image transfer position, where the plate cylinder is held to the blanket cylinder in order to print an image thereon for subsequent transfer to the web, and an image nontransfer position where the plate cylinder is spaced from the blanket cylinder. Only one plate cylinder is held in the image transfer position on each side of the web. For a change from one image to another, the plate cylinders that have been printing the opposite sides of the web are retracted to the image nontransfer positions, and the other plate cylinders, rotating in phase with the blanket cylinders, are moved to the image transfer positions. There is no need for stopping the web or the blanket cylinders.

  • Patent number: 5709147
Abstract: Disclosed is an ink furnishing apparatus in a lithographic printing press with a keyless system which performs printing by furnishing a relatively high viscous ink and dampening water to printing plates on a plate cylinder. A first shearing force is exerted on the ink upon drawing out the ink deposited on a peripheral surface of a fountain roller through a first gap between an ink fountain and the peripheral surface of the fountain roller by rotation of the fountain roller, and a second shearing force is exerted on the ink due to a difference of peripheral speeds of the fountain roller and a first intermediate roller upon transition of the ink from the peripheral surface of the fountain roller to the peripheral surface of the first intermediate roller across a second gap between the peripheral surface of the fountain roller and the peripheral surface of the first intermediate roller, thus, water is separated from the ink.
