    Abstract: A method of metallic finishing which comprises the steps of: applying a thermosetting liquid coating material to a substrate, further applying thereon a transparent thermosetting powder coating material, and baking both coated films to cure them simultaneously. The above liquid coating material contains a film forming component of thermosetting resin and a pigment to give metallic appearance and the thermosetting resin component contains a cross liking agent of melamine formaldehyde resin which is modified with a monohydroxyl compound having a boiling point in the range of 150.degree. to 250.degree. C. at 1 atm. The obtained coating film is free from the defects of cratering, pinholing, and the like and has quite excellent appearance such as metallic effect and high gloss.
