  • Patent number: 5471452
Abstract: A method of editing a plurality of information signals recorded on a recording medium is provided. According to this method, information signals which are required for editing and which are included among the signals already recorded on the recording medium are indicated. Then such indicated signals are reproduced and recorded on the same recording medium in sequence and a recording control device is caused to recognize the area on the recording medium where the indicated signals are not newly recorded, as an empty area free of recorded signals, to thereby make the best use of the recording area of the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 4984750
Abstract: A method an apparatus for replacing reels of web-like material having a paper-end gripping arm having an attraction surface and a keep pawl. A peeling member peels of a bonded end portion of the material and the material is delivered along a transport path where it is held and the bonded end portion is cut off. The cut end portion is then removed from the transport path. Two reels are supported on reel holding portions and are alternately fed to the transport path. The end portion is bonded to the reel by boring a hole in the end portion, attaching tape to the outer surface in the area of the hole and pressing the tape inwardly so that it extends through the hole and is bonded to the outer surface of the material beneath the hole.

  • Patent number: 4442985
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for controlling a web transport system, such as a tape transport, of the type having supply and take-up reels for supplying and taking up the web, respectively, a tension control circuit for controlling the supply and take-up tension of the web, a web drive, such as a capstan, and a sensor for sensing the movement of the web as it is driven. The control apparatus includes a web drive detector for detecting the operation of the web drive and, particularly, the speed at which the web drive is driven. A comparator coupled to the sensor and the web drive detector compares the actual speed at which the web moves and the speed at which the web drive is driven to indicate when the speed at which the web moves differs from the speed at which the web drive is driven, such as when the web slips with respect to the web drive. An adjusting circuit coupled to the comparator adjusts the tension control circuit when the web speed differs from the web drive speed.

  • Patent number: 4292557
Abstract: A flat drive motor, operative to transmit torque from a rotor to a drive shaft uses the attraction of a rotor magnet for a magnetic material to apply a fixed normal force to an integral friction clutch. When overloaded, the friction clutch slips with a controlled friction proportional to the normal force to prevent the development of excessive torque and to permit the rotor to turn at a normal speed while the drive shaft is slowed or stopped to prevent excessive current in the motor drive coils.

  • Patent number: 4283644
Abstract: A brushless DC motor includes a permanent field magnet secured to a rotor and having a radially directed annular surface, and two phase coil elements in the form of a sectorial loop secured to a stationary stator and disposed in a plane parallel to the annular magnet surface, the loop having circumferentially extending portions which are in inner and outer relation in respect to the center of the annular magnet surface, with the magnet and each coil element being relatively rotatable about the axis of the rotor. The mean radial distance f between the inner and outer circumferentially extending portions of each coil element and the radial width b of the annular surface of the magnet are selected as that the ratio b/f is within the range of 0.8 to 1.2 for maximizing the viscosity factor .mu. of the motor. In addition to providing the above ratio within the stated range or as an alternative thereto, the mechanical viscosity factor .mu. can be maximized by providing a reduced air gap d'=.sqroot.2d/.sqroot.

  • Patent number: 4223362
Abstract: A mode change-over mechanism for a tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus wherein the operating mode is selected by depressing a selected one of a plurality of push-buttons. The mechanism includes a pair of operating gears and a pair of independently movable operating members. The operating gears are associated with selected ones of plural push-buttons through respective trigger members. Movement of the first operating member in response to depression of a push-button establishes one operating mode for the recorder/reproducer; movement of the second operating member in response to another push-button establishes a second mode; movement of both operating members responsive to a third push-button establishes another mode; and further modes are obtained by movement of the first operating member through plural paths.

  • Patent number: 4120006
Abstract: A random access system for recording and/or reproducing apparatus of the type used for recording information on and/or reproducing information from addressable portions of a record medium. The random access system is capable of recording address signals on the medium adjacent corresponding addressable portions and of playing back address signals from the medium so as to access any addressable portion thereof to reproduce information therefrom. The address signals are constituted by a variable number of address pulses plus a constant number of pulses. The random access system includes a counter for counting pulses which are applied thereto so as to derive a count corresponding to an address. A detector detects the constant number of pulses included in an address signal and supplies only the variable number of address pulses to the counter.
