Abstract: Disclosed are a RAID apparatus in which same logical volumes are allocated on a plurality of physical disk units, and an access control method therefor. The RAID apparatus comprises a plurality of physical disk units for forming same logical volumes, and a disk controller for accessing any physical disk unit which forms a designated logical volume to thereby access the designated logical volume. This disk controller has a memory for storing the number of operations, requested to each physical disk unit, for each physical disk unit, and control means for accessing one of the plurality of physical disk units which form the designed logical volume, in accordance with the number of operations. Since a physical disk unit is selected in accordance with the numbers of operations of the individual physical disk units, it is possible to prevent unbalanced access to the physical disk units.

Abstract: A music box for playing music with a disk or a card as a medium has an improved ratchet unit for driving a vibrating reed assembly having a plurality of vibrating reeds. The ratchet unit has two arcuate shaped spacers which fit inside circular holes of a plurality of ratchets having teeth so that the teeth are guided by arcuate shaped grooves in the spacers. A hollow cylindrical member is then inserted between the spacers and a driving shaft is inserted into the hollow cylindrical member for driving the medium. A braking member is then inserted between the hollow cylindrical member and the ratchets to prevent the ratchets from being displaced due to external vibrations. The ratchet unit can be readily assembled and easily adapted to conventional music boxes.

Abstract: An instantaneous rotation device for a jack-in-the-box type music box comprises a gear adapted to be driven by a power source, an abutting portion formed on said gear, a dog rotatably provided to the gear and having a projection, a spring for biasing the projection into abutment with the abutting portion, a stationary limiting member projecting into a path of rotation of the projection, a cam member for eccentrically moving the projection out of engagement with the stationary limiting member, and a movable member biased to project into the path of rotation of the projection ahead of the limiting member in the direction of rotation of the gear. As the projection abuts against the limiting member, the spring is energized, and as the projection is released from the limiting member by the cam member, the projection instantaneously rotates the movable member by making use of the energy stored in the spring.
