    Abstract: A method for the heat treatment of steel, comprising carburization hardening said steel, to form carburized steel, followed by a second hardening, reduces the grain size of steel while precipitating carbonitrides inside the grains of steel, thereby increasing the strength of the heat-treated steel. The carburization hardening comprises heating the steel to a first austenitic temperature range in an atmosphere comprising a carburizing gas and optionally ammonia, cooling the steel to a martensitic temperature range, and quenching the steel, and the second hardening comprises heating the carburized steel to a second austenitic temperature range in an atmosphere comprising a carburizing gas and ammonia, and quenching the steel.

    Abstract: A handwritten character input device includes an opaque tablet or digitizer for inputting a handwritten character or figure into an apparatus. The tablet is of an electromagnetic induction type. The tablet is positioned under a liquid crystal display panel and an aluminum-evaporated film reflector is provided for the liquid crystal display. Preferably, the aluminum-evaporated film reflector is as thick as 1.0 micron or less. A conductive shield plate may be further provided between the tablet and a driving circuit substrate for the liquid crystal display panel. This shield plate serves to magnetically isolate the tablet from the driving substrate.

    Abstract: A plasma treating apparatus includes: an air-core coil for generating a static magnetic field which is axially uniform and a high-frequency waveguide for generating a high-frequency electromagnetic field which is irregular in the axial direction of the air-core coil. A plasma generating glass tube is disposed in the high-frequency waveguide and adapted to be supplied with a gas and a plasma reaction bath held under a vacuum for receiving the plasma flow which is generated axially in the glass tube. A substrate platform is disposed in the reaction bath for supporting a substrate to be treated at a right angle with respect to the plasma flow. There is also included a magnetic field generating coil disposed outside of said reaction bath for shaping the plasma.
