  • Patent number: 7324047
Abstract: An adaptive antenna apparatus includes two antenna elements and a parasitic element to which a variable reactance element is connected, and selects an adaptive control process according to detected signal quality. A controller executes a first adaptive control process for adaptively controlling respective signals received by the respective antenna elements and outputting the respective signals after the adaptive control as a combined received signal, and executes a second adaptive control process for reactance controlling an element value of the variable reactance element. The controller executes the first adaptive control process. The controller executes a communication process when the detected signal quality is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold. The controller executes the second adaptive control process when the detected signal quality is not equal to or larger than the threshold.

Abstract: There is provided a mobile telephone assuring a high reception sensitivity over a wide band without deteriorating the design of the mobile telephone. In the mobile telephone, a helical antenna (4) operating as an antenna for television reception is formed by winding a conductive element along the external surface of the case several times at the upper end of the upper case (1). The helical antenna (4) is impedance-matched by a matching circuit (5) in a range of the order from 470 MHz to 700 MHz which is the television broadcast frequency. The matching circuit (5) is connected to a broadcast reception circuit (6). The broadcast reception circuit (6) operates as a reception circuit for receiving the television broadcast wave.

  • Publication number: 20070229383
Abstract: By devising the case shape and antenna placement, it is possible to provide a mobile radio terminal capable of always having a high antenna sensitivity even when the mobile radio terminal is placed in a pocket of user's clothes. In this mobile radio terminal (1), the case (2) has a plane A having a flat shape and a plane B having a protruding portion (2a) at a part of the center portion or the entire portion. An antenna element (3) is placed on the protruding portion (2a) of the plane B in parallel to the plane A. Since the plane B has a protrusion or a curved shape, when the user puts the terminal into the pocket of his/her clothes, he/she unconsciously puts the terminal with the plane A in contact with his/her body side. Accordingly, the mobile radio terminal (1) is always contained in the clothes pocket with the antenna element (3) positioned at a distance from the user's body, i.e., at the farthest position from the user's body.

  • Publication number: 20070225052
Abstract: A portable telephone with broadcast receiver realizing high sensitivity performance by interlocking with the screen display state both at the time of broadcast receiving and portable telephone communication, thereby attaining suitable antenna polarization characteristics. An antenna element (1) is mounted on a display section case (3) in such a manner that its helical axis direction is aligned with the longitudinal direction of a liquid crystal display section (2). The display section case (3) is connected to an upper case (5) rotatably through a rotary shaft (4). The upper case (5) is coupled to a lower case (7) to be opened/closed freely through a hinge part (6). Main polarization direction of the antenna element (1) is varied depending on the rotational state of the liquid crystal display section (2) where its screen becomes long laterally or longitudinally, thus ensuring antenna polarization characteristics suitable for both at the time of broadcast reception and portable telephone communication.

  • Patent number: 7212164
Abstract: A radio terminal device has an antenna element, a coil, a switch, an RF circuit section and a conductive substrate. The switch is used to switch between a case where current distribution exists only in the antenna element and its vicinities and a case where the current distribution exists not only in the antenna element and its vicinities but also in other places. Additionally, the switch is switched in accordance with the usage pattern in which the user uses the radio terminal device (e.g., telephone call and data communication). This allows the transmission/reception to be performed with the antenna polarization and directivity suitable for the usage pattern. Thus, there can be provided a radio terminal device that exhibits a reception characteristic suitable for a respective situation.
