  • Patent number: 7367566
Abstract: A metal gasket for sealing multiple cylinder bores includes one or more metal substrates, main sealing beads around each of the cylinder bores, and one or more sub-beads. The main sealing beads include meandering portions located in a sealing portion between the cylinder bores, and the sub-bead is provided between the meandering portions. By placing the sub-bead between the main bead meandering portions, the base portion of the meandering portion and the base portion of the sub-bead squeeze each other. As a result, the lower portion of the meandering portion can be prevented from slipping, and the surface pressure can be partially reinforced. The metal gasket provides an excellent seal in a location where surface pressure is often partially reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060163820
Abstract: A metal gasket for providing a seal between a cylinder head and a cylinder block of an engine is a laminate of a first metal plate, a second metal plate, and a third metal plate. The first metal plate has a folded portion for positioning around a cylinder bore, the second metal plate has a first full bead inside the folded portion to provide a primary sealing portion, and the third metal plate has a second full bead provided around an outer circumference of the first full bead to provide a secondary sealing portion. The primary sealing portion has a primary sealing surface pressure, and the secondary sealing portion has a secondary sealing surface pressure less than the primary sealing surface pressure. The secondary sealing portion provides enhanced following capability during engine operation.

  • Patent number: 6851677
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine includes a first metal plate having first holes and first beads formed around the respective first holes, and a second metal plate disposed under the first metal plate and having a second bead extending toward the first metal plate. A distance between the first and second beads or a width of at least one of the first and second beads at a high heat load portion of the cylinder bore is formed to be greater than a distance between the first and second beads or a width of at least one of the first and second beads at a low heat load portion of the cylinder bore to thereby reduce a surface pressure at the high heat load portion.

  • Patent number: 6758479
Abstract: In a cylinder head gasket, a base plate forming the gasket is formed of a first metallic material, and a grommet is provided around a hole for a cylinder bore and formed of a second metallic material different from the first metallic material. The grommet and the base plate are connected by welding. Accordingly, the grommet formed of the optimum material can be provided around the hole for the cylinder bore, and the base plate can be formed of the optimum material. Thus, the cylinder head gasket has a good sealing ability and excellent durability.

  • Patent number: 6705619
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket is formed of a metal plate, a sealing bead formed in the metal plate around a liquid hole, and a peripheral bead formed in the metal plate to extend around a periphery of the metal plate. At least a part of the peripheral bead is set to have a surface pressure lower than that of the sealing bead when the gasket is tightened by that the height of the peripheral bead is lower than that of the sealing bead or the width of the peripheral bead is greater than that of the sealing bead. Thus, when the gasket is tightened, substantially uniform and optimum load share can be obtained on the peripheral bead and the sealing bead for the fluid hole.
